Ok, I'm trying to compile a list together. Here are the credentials. - Cannot be made before 2005.
- Can be on any platform (for the purposes of this list, let's not include mobile)
- Developer must be in North America!
- Not rooted in reality (where "realism" is a goal) and/or features stylized art direction
- Not based on any established franchise made before 2005 or from other media.
- No sports or puzzle games
- No indie (home-studio), low-budget, or self-published titles
= borderline counts - Darksiders (Vigil Games)
- Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars (Red Fly)
- anything by Twisted Pixel
- Brutal Legend (Double Fine)
- Psychonauts (Double Fine)
- Drawn to Life (5th Cell)
- Spore (EA/Maxis)
- Fat Princess (Titan Studios)
- Borderlands
(Gearbox) - Matt Hazard (Vicious Cycle)
- Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon (Vicious Cycle)
- anything by Gaijin Games
- Raskulls (Halfbrick)
- Spiral Knights (Three Rings Design)
- Plants vs. Zombies (PopCap Games)
- Geist
(n-Space) - Prey
(3D Realms) - Journey (thatgamecompany)
- Orcs Must Die! (Robot Entertainment)
Please feel free to discuss additions/subtractions to this list. I may have to make the rules more specific if people are unsure.

Section 8 I'm unsure if its sequel (Section 8: Prejudice) counts because it is only available through download and costs $15. It's on PS3, 360, and PC. Is that too low budget?

Sorry to ask, but what is the purpose of this thread exactly?
Also, I think Mass Effect qualifies for the list......

Nope, all of those games have realistic graphics. The ideas are sci-fi, but they're still rooted in reality. Same goes for Section 8 Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Gears of War. I guess I'll give you Geist and Prey, but that's pushing it. And Naner: Scribblenauts is a puzzle game - but don't worry, I made the same mistake too.

Portal is a puzzle game, and is also set in the Half Life universe, which is rooted in reality, so that is a double no-no.
Also, what exactly is the point of this list?

Are we talking about graphics/art or the premise of the game? Brink has a different art direction but is grounded in reality, nevermind, was made in UK.

Rage's graphics look a lot like Borderlands, they were most certainly not grounded in realism. O.o

Skullgirls. The rules don't mention games that aren't out yet These are really strict criteria. You may as well rename this thread to 'list N.A developers that are willing to commit financial suicide'.

Have we removed the no indie rule, because I see several on here already (splosion man, gaijin games, skullgirls, etc) Have madworld or no more heroes 2 been said yet? Edit: nevermind, I just double checked and both of those were developed in japan (I think this just shows how much american companies could improve the videogame industry were they looking past trying to let people experience opening their front door by turning on their television)

Huh. Coulda swore Skullgirls was being published by Konami. Looks like I was wrong.
Madworld was made by Platinum, a Japanese developer. NMH was made by Grasshopper, another JP dev.
