So I just had to boast in here about the most amazing deal I got over the weekend. I went to a flea market in Cincinatti called Turtle Creek. Some guy was selling stuff out of his van, and I noticed there was a really dirty PSOne (the 2nd gen slimline version) on a rack. I showed some interest in it. So the guy comes over and says "I don't know a thing about them things, but I'll take $5 for it" It didn't have any controllers or the hookups, it was just the system. So I started rummaging through his boxes of plugs and found the official Sony AC Adapter for it! I already had 2 controllers and the AV Cables for my original PS1 which doesn't really play games that well anymore (I'm sure you're all familiar with the Playstation upside-down trick) So I actually TALKED HIM DOWN to $4 saying it was really dirty and the eject button was kind of sticky.
Bought a PSOne for $4! Brought it home, cleaned it all up, and it works flawlessly.
So, anyone else have amazingly good video game deals stories you'd like to share?

I haven't had any smoking deals in awhile, though I DID hear one story secondhand (don't know if it's true or not, but it sounds fake). Apparently, this kid bought a used 360 from a pawn shop. He opens up the box, and it's got $350 in it. And it doesn't stop there - then he says he bought a PSP for $25. I think that last bit is least believable of all unless the guy who runs the store is a complete and utter idiot (which means I need to find out where it is ) Maybe he forgot to add another 0. I also thought people stopped lying about this sort of thing when they got older than 12.

A friend of mine was going to trade in his SNES and all of his games a while back to buy a different system. I noticed he had Megaman X2, which is not a game you see every day. He told me he'd give it to me for $10. Deal.
Then another friend had a SNES copy of Megaman X3, which is even more rare. He gave it to me for free since I helped him make a webpage. (Also he owned the MMX Collection for PS2 and even though that version of X3 is the PSX version, he didn't mind parting with the SNES one).
I bought copies of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI (III US) for SNES at a pawn shop for $10 each.
I got a copy of Halo 2 for free. Found it laying on the ground near a dumpster. It now serves prominently as a coaster on my desk.

I usually get damn lucky with strategy guides. I'm always hitting the used section and I have found some insane guides for $1 to $2.
I got Suikoden 1 and 2 for a buck, 3 weeks ago I got the N64 Smash Bros, every Metriod Prime/Fusion (all 5), every MGS 1,2,3,substance, subsistence. basically 40% of my games I got a $1-$5 guide for it.

This the strategy guides or the games? I've found that sometimes the guides can be worth quite a bit of money - in some cases more than the game! This seems mostly to be the case for RPGs, particularly good or obscure ones where a guide is helpful and that didn't have millions of copies printed (*cough* FFVII *cough*). Sweet deals!

At the Blockbuster where I work, we were getting rid of our old rental systems a while back. I picked up our Dreamcast and PSX (not the PSOne, though...) with all of the hookups for $40. I took them apart and soaked the cases in water overnight and cleaned off all of the ink and stickers with a magic eraser. They look brand new now.
Another time, I went to a flea market that's close to where I live and got an Atari 2600, the original plastic-wood case, two joysticks, 28 games, and all the hookups for $45.

They were the guides. Suikoden 2 I already had, so it was an extra copy. Suikoden 1 I didn't have but was hunting for 3 years. That will be a shopping day I won't forget.

I got an N64 and about 30 games for $40 from a friend, provided he could use it whenever he wanted. I got 4 controllers, plus he's so obsessed with his xboxes that he doesn't care about the "old stuff."
I wish the controller was better, though.

My friend still lives with his parents, and I guess he’s gotta dump a lot of his stuff, so I’m getting his Virtual Boy( in addition to my own) and some other cool junk probably.
