... I like the Battle Network series. The 4th one in particular. Forever alone. ;_;

NECRO BUMP!

This is a few days old, but still relevant to the Mega Man fans & Street Fighter fans of the MDb:

On December 17, Mega Man's 25th anniversary, Capcom and awesome Singaporean fan Seow Zong Hui are set to release Street Fighter x Mega Man, an official retro style Mega Man fan game which pits the Blue Bomber against eight of the World Warriors, COMPLETELY FREE. No Joke!

The project's been in the works since 2010 but only had official Capcom involvement since EVO earlier this year. The game is officially sanctioned, complete and ready for release on PC and supposedly intended to be a new barometer for interest in the franchise. That last part is a little worrying. That was supposed to be the case with the Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Edition, which Capcom scrapped sighting lack of interest in the franchise. This game's already happening, and Capcom purportedly has more Mega Man goodness on the way, but judging the future worth of a series based on a fangame, albeit an excellently made and freely distributed one, seems... concerning.

At the very least, it's a new Mega Man game. It's right around the corner, won't be C&D'd and is totally free. May well help kickstart the series back into prominence too.

Best of all? IT'S NOT A SHITTY iOS PORT OF A FAR SUPERIOR GAME OR A BASELESS NOSTALGIA CASH GRAB.

I'm still conflicted in my view of Capcom, but this announcement has at least lifted my spirits.

It's like those dead, dead stares from XBL avatars are trying to tell us something.

Haha, Oh Capcom, you never cease to amuse me.

EDIT: Though its still more than what Samus got :'(

The best part is that you have to buy the Mega Buster seperately.

Armature Studios (Ex-Retro Studios people) was working on a Metroid Prime style reboot of Megaman.

It wasn't as cool as it sounds.

I remember saying how it would be cool if Adi Granov got to redesign Samus. I take it back :(

Yeah, my feelings are really mixed about that one. It sounds awesome but looks terrible. Armature is now working on Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, and I really wish this one turns out good.

It almost like it confirms all my humorous stereotypes of western developers rebooting classic Japanese franchises.

It's hard to take a realistic megaman seriously. I keep thinking of this guy:

Is it bad that I think it overall looks pretty cool? I mean, a lot of changes could've been made to tone down the "westernness" of it much like what happened with Prime. This thing was only 6 months into development before it was canned. Imagine how great the end result likely would have been if they had continued to collaborate on this...So sad.

The concept is solid, you can make anything out of Mega Man, except a game apparently, but the execution needed work. I agree more time in the oven would've likely produced something better, technically, but not aesthetically. As an FPS it would've been doomed to follow after and ape it's competition and that'd lead the project down some very dark and unnecessarily gritty corridors. Literally. If they truly "Primed" the X series, I'd be all over that, but such likely isn't possible in the industry's present climate. Now to sit back and see what else Capcom doesn't do with the franchise.

I like the concept but not the visuals. Visually it's so... Not Megaman.

If they could have "Primed" the series but retained some of the anime-ish look, it could've been amazing. At the very least it would've been better than letting the series stagnate... Oh wait.

Well, it was only in development for six months. Prime was also very western when it first showed up and then Nintendo stepped in to Japan things up. The same could've happened here. But alas, it was not to be.

That's true. And thank goodness they did. The arm cannon Retro was originally going to give out heroine... *shudders*

If you guys haven't read the entire article I can't recommend it enough. Lots of interesting info not only on this coulda been, but also great info on the development of the X series.
