So Tomb Raider is a surprise hit for me. If you're on the fence about it, get off of it. Now. It's awesome. Out of the games of 2013 thus far, this has been my favorite, only a hair more than Fire Emblem.
The atmosphere is dark, at times hopeless. There are a lot of things in it that a Metroid fan can enjoy about it, most of all the need to find new tools to get to new areas and solving puzzles to find some new items or to reach 100% completion.
On top of this Crystal Dynamics did a fantastic job with Lara's character. Physically, Lara has been extremely toned down from pre-reboot depictions. Her breasts are not gigantic, and she's not wearing super skimpy clothing. Being her first adventure, in the opening hours Lara has several "Oh my god, is this really fucking happening?" type lines, and especially freaks when she has to kill another human being for the first time. They don't dwell on it though, and you can see Lara adapt quickly to the island of crazed cultists.
It's cool to see a female character that's not overly sexualized, whiny, or reliant on men in an industry of super dude bro main characters.
If you've played it, loved it, didn't like it, have any concerns before getting it, feel free to discuss.

For some reason, I've always had a fondness for the Tomb Raider series. I've got every game that existed but about the only ones I haven't played in any great depth yet is Last Revelation, Chronicles (Because holy balls did they suck. Lucky CD took over before Core could ever release another Tomb Raider game, eh?) and Underworld (Which got shuffled to the bottom of my playlist due to a Steam sale just after I bought it and never clawed its way back up.)
Bought TR2013 yesterday in my local Tescos for significant chunk cheaper than the Steam price. Just waiting for it to patch now. Might get some play in before work.

Let me know what you think of it. You won't want this one to fall to the bottom of the steam pile.
According to the progress tracker, at 13 hours in I'm 51% of the way through.

If you play one Frightened 21 Year Old Female College Graduate Archaeologist Trapped On A Crazy Japanese Island Filled With Climbing Puzzles, Fire, Psychotic Cultists, And Angry Wolves Simulator this year, consider Tomb Raider.
Having a lot of fun with it so far, the only issue I'm really having is that playing it for any period of time causes the fan on my GPU to spin like a... spinny thing that spins very quickly. I swear my ageing PC is about to either achieve lift-off or explode violently. I've shorn away as many graphical options as I can without the whole thing looking like it's running on a potato and it still is unbearably loud. Which is odd, because Tomb Raider doesn't seem that graphically intensive.

Ha ha, back in the Playstation days I was a massive fan of Tomb Raider I, II and III... but then I got those monstrosities which were a huge disappointment. Since then I've barely glanced at the Tomb Raider series (bar watching the first movie since Chris Barrie was in it). It's good to see a new T.R. game being given high acclaim again. Hopefully it'll be able to reignite my love for the series if I ever get it.

I just finished this tonight, 100% everything. Fantastic game. Had a blast with it, and can't wait for another game or more content.
The ending was awesome. Lara's journey was incredible, and it definitely sets her up for further, awesome adventures.

I played the opening sequence at the SXSW gaming expo and was extremely surprised and entertained. (I got up to the part where you find the ruins) A lot of people are turned off by the QTEs but that only happens at the beginning. After that it turns into a really great 3p adventure game! Yes, very impressive title.

Full disclosure, there are maybe a couple more full on QTEs and a lot of button prompts (dodge enemy, press Y at right time to lodge your climbing axe in their knee, or press x to keep yourself from falling).
It's not God of War or Uncharted level of QTEs.

I always sort of thought this would be the MOM of TR, but it turned out to look awesome.
I haven't played it yet, but I definitely will soon. I played the newer trilogy (Legend, Anniversary, Underworld) and I loved them.
"Yeah, right, trying to trick me again. Well, Harley Quinn is nobody's fool, anymore." I really love Wikia, FOX and Nintendo. Really... -_-

I'd say its more of a Prime. A new envisioning that fans were nervous about but turned out to be awesome.

So if I know pretty much nothing about Tomb Raider, is this a good game to start with? I hear it's fantastic.
~Kraid is best character and Other M is a great game.

Yes. It's a complete reboot so it's perfect for new fans.
