Time for a Downpour update. Here's an interview with the producer, David Shatsky, from EGM[i]. He really seems to have a well developed idea of what Silent Hill is and what it isn't. Plus there are a few more pictures really showing off the atmosphere of the game. Also, I'm guessing that's the title music playing on the title page of the article. Very nice. Got my preorder already.

Very nice! I want the soundtrack now! The rusty, metal, wet side of Silent Hill seems pretty cool! I never thought of the old games as flat until I read that? Having the depth and elevation terrain is a really cool idea. This game is looking up, I can not help but get excited about it now. It sounds quite different in a lot of ways. I'm hopeful the new ideas will add some life to our dying town Thanks LesserChozo. We should be getting news soon about the cast of the new movie as well!

Yeah, I had to think about that. Not exactly sure what he means by that. Downpour has hills? Lucid Flower wrote:We should be getting news soon about the cast of the new movie as well!
Latest I've read, Emily Browning is rumored to being considered to play Heather. I could see that. Wonder how they're going to go with the character, though. Will she be anything like her game persona, or will she be unique to the film canon?

In the pictures I have seen there is quite a bit of realistic looking rough terrain. Silent hill 2 sort of did in the beginning. I like that one far corner of the town has some altitude though.
I am going to wait it out about the cast of the second movie. I do not ever read into any rumors, ever. I want everything from the horses mouth when it comes down to things I am interested in. I would suggest you spend some time on the directors blog though. He answers a lot of good questions there! I don't really have any high hopes for the movie. I just want it to be better than the first movie! Witch was fun and had some cool things to see.

Sweet. Sounds like it's not a direct sequel to the first film, though. Unless they explain what happened to Rose and how Heather/Sharon reunited with her dad.

Well on the directors blog he said that he chose to make a movie about silent hill 3 because it was a direct sequel to the first movie/game story.
He explained he wanted to wrap it up so that future silent hill films could be more original (hopefully) and not based on one of the games.
Makes sense to me.

That's all well and good, but the first film changed the story so much. And now he's doing a more direct adaptation? I just want to know how he's tying the two together. I mean in the first film, he changed Harry into Rose, altered the circumstances of the burning completely, and Rose and Sharon never really made it back home. That just doesn't fit the third game's premise. But, I'm sure it will all fit together somehow. I've proposed one possible fix in the Silent Hill forum where Christabella's group was an opposing sect to The Order, and that their intention for burning Sharon/Cheryl was really to interfere with The Order's plans, but instead they inadvertantly fulfilled those plans. Or something like that.

Silent F__king Hill. I'm appalled that you can talk about this series so casually, man.

Can you elaborate?

I played my first Silent Hill game over last winter break. SH2. That game was scarring. I do not recommend Silent Hill for most people. Shit, the worst Resident Evil is a daisy chain compared to that series. No contest. It was torture...

Are we talking mechanics, here, or story? Um, yeah, Silent Hill really can't be compared to RE. It's not for everyone.

I liked the mechanics. I liked being able to mark the map and hold an unlimited inventory. I liked the detailed graphics. I did not like everybody in that game being COMPLETELY INSANE. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN RUNNING FOR THEIR LIVES.

Each person who visits Silent Hill, or rather is drawn to it, has a reason to be there. They each have an obsession that drives them. That's part of the core of the series. The characters are facing external manifestations of their own internal conflicts. Unfortunately, the town itself has its own conflicts that they have to deal with as well. Although, not everybody sees the town that way. It is a thriving resort town after all.

Speaking of silent hill 2 though, perhaps you should learn more about the character of Laura,
since she was not "completely insane."
