Re: What is your favorite video game music? You know, for such a light-hearted backdrop, Kirby has a tendency to be fairly epic, and even quite dark at times EDIT:I dislike double posting, so I'll just add this: "Writing is easy. You just stare at a blank page until your forehead starts to bleed." - Douglas Adams

Re: What is your favorite video game music?I've got to admit that I have so much love for the original Corneria theme from Star Fox. This video has a few versions of it rolled into one:
And there was even an unused arrangement in Star Fox 2. |

Re: What is your favorite video game music?Whenever I hear the Corneria theme, I think that koji Kondo HAD to have played After Burner 2 in the arcades, because it sounds so much like the track After Burner. Considering how AB2 pre-dates Star Fox by like 7 years, I think it's entirely possible!
Too bad the highly energetic SNES Starfox soundtrack was followed up by a lacking and forgettable N64 soundtrack. There's only about 2 or 3 tracks from the game that anyone remembers (Star Wolf, Corneria, and like, Area 6, maybe), as opposed to the SNES's great jams. Mr. Driller has some really funky cool music for a cutesy puzzle game: I just purchased the DS iteration, which doesn't have nearly as good music (though it's passable). When you add horns and funky slap bass to your song, you are guaranteed to make it better. Keep that in mind, aspiring composers!

Re: What is your favorite video game music?Just listened to the Last Story soundtrack that came free with my copy of the game (which I still haven't played yet... too much backlog), and I have to say, some of the music is incredible. Makes me want to play it more, and the first two songs make me think that the composer could definitely make some great Metroid music- moody, atmospheric, mythic...

Re: What is your favorite video game music?I just beat Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, and I must say it has a few good songs in there.
I'm currently playing Darksiders II, and I've gotta say... not very memorable in terms of music. So far. "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."

Re: What is your favorite video game music? That new Sonic racing game has an inexplicably good soundtrack:

Re: What is your favorite video game music? This is kind of cheating, but the music in Star Wars: The Old Republic is awesome. There are some actual Star Wars tracks, as well as new tracks that are definitely in the spirit of Star Wars.
The music in Pokemon Black 2 is pretty good too. Meanwhile, my other new game, Super Mario 3D Land has mostly forgettable "Mario" music. Not as catchy as most other Mario soundtracks. "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."

Re: What is your favorite video game music?A very hard question. I love music from 100500 games. Better write a list of favourite composers and authors cover versions: Frank Klepacki, Stephane Picq, Akira Yamaoka, Sonic Mayhem, Tommy Tallarico, Andrew Sega, Yuzo Koshiro, Bart Klepka, Megadriver, Powerglove, Neskimos, Pornophonique, Minibosses.
Not all but they best for me. ![]() |

After playing through the whole game this song makes you feel like you did something important and powerful.
I think, I am just as shocked as most people are when they find out Samus is girl.

Re: What is your favorite video game music?^Very true. Loved Dishonored, and the song during the end credits was great. Lyrics are pretty good.
Can't believe I never posted this, but Cynthia Harell's Snake Eater theme from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is amazing. One of the best game songs (with lyrics) I've heard. "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."

Re: What is your favorite video game music? The broken youtube embeds make this topic a sad sight indeed.
Now it's time to talk about another ZUNTATA masterpiece, Elevator Action Returns! I picked this game up over the break, and I was only able to beat it once with some dirty credit-feeding - the game deserves to be beaten in one sitting though, because the way it unfolds (much like an 80s action movie) makes it so rewarding. You stop some terrorist group led by a Miles Edgeworth cosplayer, and you stop them by opening and closing doors. Well, there's a bit more to it than that, but that's the basic gist of it. Very detailed sprite work, great animations (like when enemies get set on fire, or crushed by errant elevators!), and in general a whole mess of fun! Play a ROM of it on MAME, or on the Taito Legends 2 PS2 disc! ![]() ![]() But on to the music! Yasuhise Wantanabe, aka .YACK, does the music this time, and since he is one of ZUNTATA's best and brightest, the OST is of course pure jazz goodness: Red After Image What better to start things off with a jazzy tune with one fine bass groove? The Piano jazzing out at 1:24 is so good. Colors of Night Real smooth and funky, as you ascend this under-construction skyscraper, getting closer and closer to your goal. By the time the trumpet comes in, you really feel like you are a badass action hero! Blow Up It's not often you have a slightly-downbeat song for a final level, but the entire OST of Elevator Action Returns is sort of downbeat and cinematic, and the game itself is sort of slow-moving (not a run-n-gun for sure!), so it works well. The song itself is a great reprise of Colors of Night, and complements the action perfectly for the characteristic "Stop the terrorists from launching a nuke!" final level.

Re: What is your favorite video game music? Can't argue with that, the song is awesome. Personally however, I'm an even bigger fan of Peace Walker's "Heavens Divide". It has such power to it and the lyrics fit so well with Big Boss' story. |
