Yeah... "Still Alive" is great and all, but I think Ellen's voice is too high-pitched in it. And "Want You Gone" is also pretty darn catchy. I often catch myself singing "You want your freedom, take it. That's what I'm counting on" to myself. XD

Kids these days and their portals. I like both, but I felt that Still Alive fit the game like a glove - it kind of encapsulated everything about the game in a really fun and funny moment. Short, sweet, and to the point. Just like Portal. Portal 2 was a bit weighted down by its narrative (a great narrative, mind you), and some of the periphery aspects of the game reflect that.

Now, let me make another semi-long post about really good VGM that you probably all have never heard.

Have you ever watched Top Gun, and said to yourself "You know, these jets are sweet, but I wish they stopped focusing on Tom Cruise and got to the action?"

Well, After Burner II on the Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, and Arcade (and its most recent iteration, After Burner: Climax on the PSP and XBLA) is basically that: Sega's take on the arcade shooter in the vein of Top Gun minus the vaguely homoerotic undertones of the movie.

And let me tell you it's fun.
It's made even more fun when you have a bad-ass guitar soundtrack (with 80s arcade chip synths) to make everything feel super-cool:

^^I present to you the best use of orchestra hits in any VGM song ever.
**here's a direct link if that second video is not embedding**

Hiroshi Kawaguchi did a lot of stellar soundtracks for SEGA back in the day, like his amazing work in Space Harrier, and his singularly stellar tracks in Outrun, one of the best racing games I've ever played. Don't forget to check out the amazing, thumping remixes on the Sega Saturn Version! I have the entire soundtrack ripped from my disc uploaded to mediafire if anyone wants to jam.

Back in the arcade days, SEGA could do no wrong, at least when you look at its amazing sprite scaling (just look at a video of Space Harrier, or Outrun, or hell, Galaxy Force II and tell me it's not impressive!).

Hiroshi Kawaguchi is probably more known nowadays for his work on Bayonetta, so if you liked that game and its music, his early work is worth checking out.

More Portal 2 awesomeness:

Seriously though, if you haven't downloaded the perfectly legal Portal 2 soundtrack there is something wrong with you.

(Edit: Changed The Friendly Faith Plate to I Saw a Deer Today, hadn't noticed it had already been posted.)

Pretty much anything cave story floats my boat, especially the "remastered" edition soundtrack from CS3D and CS+.

I was playing NES Legend of Zelda for a few minutes last night for shits and giggles, and I forgot how cool the dungeon theme was. :) Also, the temple themes from Zelda II. I also love the SSB Melee remix of the Temple theme.

Obviously:

Metroid Prime 3, my favorite of the series for music.
In other news, I recently played and beat SF:RotDD(4 times) And loved th(is)/(ese) theme(s)

.etc

Yeah, this is probably a pretty stretched out post right now, so yeah...that's pretty much all I need to say on themes for now...

I like to limit myself to two embeds per post, afterward just linking to the URLs. Because after that point no one is going to listen anyway, and it just clogs up and clutters the page, makes it harder to load, and just makes topics large and unwieldy. HEY GUYS YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO ING HE HAS GOOD ADVICE HINT HINT

That being said, you know what Sega has always done right? Music.

Listen to these goofy J-rock-inspired songs from Burning Rangers. I know I have been listening to them on loop for the last week or so!

The lyrics don't make any sense, but they are fun, and they get you PUMPED UP to be, like, a futuristic firefighter.
I've been looking for this game for a while now, and it's rather expensive and rare, but it looks to be really fun. Plus, great music like that always helps. Especially when used with an anime intro! Because every game is made better with an anime intro!

LET'S GET SOME KOF UP IN THIS BITCH. KOF '97'S ARRANGED SOUNDTRACK, TO BE PRECISE.

A lot of people say the Orochi Iori/Leona boss fight music isn't that good. But what the hell do they know, Control Crisis is awesome.

ARASHI NO SAXOPHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE
Most people prefer Arashi 2 over Cool Jam ~Arashi 3~, but they're all good. Cool Jam's one of my favorites.

(LAST ONE)

This one's from KoF '99's arranged soundtrack. Kyo's a secret character in that one along with Iori, due to them being presumably dead after KoF '98, but they gave him and Iori completely new themes for that game. Kyo's is Tears, which is the favorite theme of most KoF fans. It's not my favorite, but it's still really good. It represents Kyo's growing up and learning that life isn't really a joke, since NESTS did all those experiments on him and made 10,000 clones of him (literally).

Tl;DR, good song, one of the best in the KoF series.
