When I saw the Game Informer article for "Batman: Arkham City", I was stoked. After the success of "Arkham Asylum", Rocksteady's got a tough act to follow, but from what I've seen so far, they're already standing to blow AA out of the water. For those who haven't read the article, the major plot points are already setting the bar higher. (spoilers for AA!):
*After AA, Arkham warden Quincy Sharp has become Mayor of Gotham City and has converted much of Gotham's slums into a city-wide holding pen. All of Gotham's worst have been dumped inside with one warning: Do Not Escape. Basically an "Escape From New York" scenario. *All the major villains of Gotham have started a gang war, swaying petty thugs into their soldiers in a battle for supremacy within the "Arkham City". *Joker's still around, but he's very ill, most likely (though unconfirmed from Rocksteady) a result of his gene-warping antics in AA. Also, this will be Mark Hamill's absolute last performance as The Joker, so expect him to go out memorably. *Two-Face figures early into the game, having only just arrived in Arkham City and eager to gain influence. He figures a public execution of Catwoman will give him the sway he needs. *The involvement of a new Arkham psychiatrist, Dr. Hugo Strange (a VERY old Bat-Villain, even older than Joker), will play a significant role, though that's yet to be figured out.
Also, a newly-discovered Easter Egg in AA reveals that this was NOT a spur-of-the-moment sequel decision. http://www.geek.com/articles/games/newl ... -20100816/

This game looks awesome. Loved AA, this looks just as good. It's so fun kicking major butt as Batman!

I loved Arkham Asylum. This one sounds really good, too bad I won't have the money for it, with the 3DS and such. It's also good to see it was planned all along, and, with the easter egg being found only now, one could guess it was the best-hidden easter egg ever.

Well, who would think to go around putting explosive gel on the Warden's office wall? I sure wouldn't have...it was very well-hidden

Harvey, Harvey, Harvey Dent! He is so going to own Arkham City. There also better be a mode where you can play as him so that he can pummel criminals just like the year Bats was away during Infinite Crisis.
I hope that Clayface and Black Mask make an appearance as well. I can't wait!

Since Arkham City is less than a month from release I thought I may as well dig up this old thread. This video should tell you everything you need to know.
Now a list of confirmed characters: Batman, Joker, Harley Quinn (voiced by Tara Strong instead of Arleen Sorkin,) Commisioner Gordon, Catwoman (as a playble character,) Mr. Freeze, Riddler, Bane (apparently HELPING Batman believe it or not,) Penguin, Alfred, Oracle, Calander Man, Zsaz, Jack Ryder, Posion Ivy, Mad Hatter, Two-face, Solomon Grundy, Talia Al Ghul, Deadshot and Robin (playable as a preorder bonus).

Didn't really like the first one. The art-style was really hard to look at and the combat was shallow. Tell me they at least fixed that second one. Infinity's End wrote:Bane (apparently HELPING Batman believe it or not,)
Bane's more of an anti-hero than a villain these days.

...Truth be told, I never really liked Batman. I only liked him on the PS2 on one game that I cannot remember.

I can guarantee you Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are way better games than whatever PS2 one you played. They are, without a shade of doubt, the best Batman games out there, and likely the best overall superhero ones, too.
That is why I believe expanded universe should be used whenever a franchise jumps to a new medium. Some stories (and even characters, events, environments, etc.) work better in a book. Others fit best in a film and some are video game material. A movie based on a game (and vice-versa) will only work when directors and producers learn that.
Anyway. About Arkham City... I'm sure the game will be great, but I don't want to get excited about it because I know I won't be able to play it for at least a few months. I might play it in January if my cousin decides to buy it.

I would try it out, sure. But that don't mean I won't like it.

That and the whole Arkham Asylum plays like a Metroid game thing... but who here cares about that, am I right? Personally I didn't really like the brawling combat, but the stealth combat sections were awesome. I'm hoping Arkhem City's larger world doesn't change the way you travel through it in a way that makes it more of a sandbox world and less of a Metroid world. I suppose those things don't have to mutually exclusive, but we'll see. Sucks about the PC version using Games for Windows Live. I don't have any system it will come out for except PC, but I'm loath to buy another game that uses that crap.

Well they talk a lot about how you can now use your cape to glide around a bunch so traveling over large distances shouldn't be as much of an issue. That and now there are more sidequests and the like.

I've already bought it for £20 for PC, don't see it getting that price on steam for a long while. WiiU isn't getting my money for a long while.
