Don't know about the rest as I've not really played them, but I know that Counter Strike doesn't count and I can also say with certainty that Half-Life wouldn't either.

Dead Rising 2 was made by americans as well as Off the Record. Duke NUkem Forever was released more recently.

But Duke Nukem Forever still based on an older franchise. And its graphics aren't non-realistic. And it's crap (which isn't enough to take it off the list, but still).

Have you read the previous posts? We're looking for non-realistic art style coupled with non-realistic content. That's why inFamous, Resistance, FEAR and Rage are out. And Duke Nukem is from the '90s, so it's not even worth arguing about.

:!: WARNING: This game won't fit your list!!
... I knew well in advance that it wouldn't, but please consider taking a look at, Rayman Origins.
It has amazing non-realistic, cartoon-based art, it was made after 2005 and also made by a known company, Ubisoft.

I'm deeply confused why you have such an odd fetish for these certain types of games that need these requirements.

But... whatever fits your fancy.

If I'm not mistaken, Infinity's End studies game design. I wouldn't be surprised if this list is for an essay or project.

It's more or less proving that American (US) game developers are lazy and extremely uncreative. Furthermore, everyone's obsessed with realism, war, guns, and killing, namely in the first person perspective. I don't only blame the developers for keeping making these games, but also the majority of gamers that keep lapping it up like it's nothing less than crack cocaine. If it didn't sell, then people wouldn't keep making it.

Nowadays, if it isn't based on an already-established franchise, people won't even turn their heads.
Games like Rayman Origins are definitely great, but again, it's not made by a US developer (France), and I bet you it still won't even do anything more than mediocre sales. It's just sad how the creativity in this country is few and far between. If it's not hyper realistic, or you're not blasting the shit out of something in first person, then no one cares.

The list basically proves 1.) how difficult it is to think of and 2.) how few of these truly creative games there actually are, or at least how many have been made in the last 6 years. What's even worse is most of these games are not "hits," and mostly just end up as "cult classics."

I definitely see your point. The US once was a creative power like few others, but that has changed drastically in the past decade. It still produces some amazing things, whether it's books, films or games, but that those are much less frequent than they once were.

It's sad to see how people keep buying so many uninspired games year after year. While great games like Rayman Origins fails to move even a million units on all platforms combined, Modern Warfare 3 keeps selling like there's no tomorrow. Even Zelda and Mario, with their enormous fanbases, struggle to keep up.

Don't hate on Modern Warfare 3! I bought it last week.
Sure, it's uninspired. However, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The formula hasn't been beaten to death just yet. It bugs me that a lot of CoD fanboys are bashing MW3 for being too unoriginal. I think the various enhancements and additions to the foundation laid down by the previous CoDs in this generation are great.

Regardless, people keep begging for change, and hate it when it finally arrives. That's why developers think loooooong and hard before doing anything very drastic.

Humans hate change. Look at other media. Pop music, for example. Hugely popular with the masses.
Catchy, buy not quite different from the song that played before it.

Not sure why you don't want to include Europe though, it's pretty much the same, I doubt your list would get vastly bigger if you included European developers. It's pretty much a West vs East divide,

There was a video on gametrailers a couple of years ago about this subject. They hypothesised that in the west we are more concerned with the 3 R's, realism, rights and rockets by that they meant realistic graphics, licensed games i.e. sports/films and explosions.

They said in Japan they focus on the 3 Fs, freedom, fantasy and fun, which is self explanatory.

'Looks at Deus Ex: HR and Splinter Cell: Chaos theory' Yup you can say thats true.... Still I find I prefer realistic graphics but a cool story and crazy toys. The only game that does that.... damn I can't think of it. Man we have shortage of.... WAIT its HALF LIFE but never mind....
