Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...I mean I will get a Wii U but I want a console for some of the good third party stuff .... and exclusives that I would like to play if I could. The PS3 is very nice but I am late to the party and is the Xbox 360 not as bad as everyone says. I am a PC gamer... so shooters really do not sell me on the 360. Just looking for personal experience with eh PS3 or 360...
I think, I am just as shocked as most people are when they find out Samus is girl.

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...It's hard to pick between a 360 and PS3.
I gravitate towards the 360 because I am a shootemup fan, and most of the arcade ports of shmups this generation have found their way on the 360 and XBLA. However, my coworker swears by the PS3 and it is by all standards a very solid console (depending on the model you get - imo, the 60GB model would be the way to go, because you can do PS2 hardware emulation as well!). It kind of depends on your preference towards exclusives, because most games come out on both 360 and PS3, though the PS3 is a bit more powerful machine.

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...
Its worse for me... I have friends on both sides of the this console gen.... and finding a 60GB is kind of hard now. Still, I like what the Uncharted Series has brought to the table and picking up the older ones is easy and cheap. And MGS4.... I just have slowy aquired an non FPS shooter taste gaming taste and Sony looks to fill that quite well. Anyways... thanks.

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...I got a PS3 in late 2009 and have absolutely no regret. The PS3 has way more exclusives than the 360 and the multiplat games that run a bit better on 360 run even better on the PC, if that's usually your prefered platform.
Uncharted, inFamous, Metal Gear Solid, God of War and other first-party (or third-party exclusive) goodies are more than enough to warrant the purchase. PSN has a solid library (even if it misses a few XBLA titles), and there's a pretty good selection of PSOne and PS2 classics there. The only disadvantage of getting one now is, of course its now short life left. It'll probably get another price cut once Wii U arrives, so it might be worth waiting until then. I don't care much about online multiplayer, but I have much more friends with PS3s than 360s... That's also something to consider. |

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...You're at an advantage buying late. You'll have access to dozens of titles right away that the rest of us had to wait years for.
Enjoy! "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...Yeah, I have a good shot at a lot of good games now since the console has been out for some time. I sold my PSP awhile back and with my GPU for my PC on sale I hope to use those funds to get a PS3. I am a PC gamer first with Nintendo first party games that I want.... but I love some of the PS3 titles that i have gotten a little to play. Well wish me luck on the GPU( have a gaming PC that am going to not use for a year so I am selling the GPU in to since I will not have time to play PC gaming but console I do have time for) sale so I can buy a PS3.

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...This is just me, but I would NEVER recommend someone getting a 360, ever.
The 360 is a defective piece of shit and Microsoft KNEW that it was defective when they released it on the market. Due to this, I will never respect M$ ever again. As others have said, PS3 and 360 have almost exact 3rd party releases. The 360, admittedly, does have a few more indie titles on their marketplace than the PS3 does, however the PS3 has the Uncharted series and a few others that to me, makes it more worth it. Between the two, solely in my eyes, I'd go PS3 all the way. |

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...I would choose a PS3 over the 360 simply because the PS3 exclusives are of better quality in my opinion.
Naughty Dog has some real talent so Last of Us and the Uncharted Series ought to be quite worth it. The ONLY thing Xbox has over PS3 is Xbox Live is slightly more competent. Don't fall for the extra things Microsoft is trying to do with the Xbox, what with the Smart Glass and all the other shit like that. So yeah, if you really want one, it wouldn't be that bad. |

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...As a owner of both consoles, I found the PS3 to be far more useful all around.
PS3 Pros: Solid Exclusive titles that will not dissapoint with out having to be a shooter. I can use it as an entertainment center when the family is around. If I decide to not play video games for a 6 month period I don't to worry about an online subscription fee. D pad isn't wonky. I don't need a special headset to talk, any Bluetooth works. You can recharge the controllers with the console. Reads usb far better and faster. Cons; Install times. Pricey accessories. I have issues with wifi. Loud fans and generates alot of heat. Sony's policies are rather one-sided. Xbox pros: You will find tonnes of players online. Only the online experiences cause for fun stories. Cons: Failure rate. Hot and loud. Lack of games that cause a unique experience that are not indie. Subscription fees to play online are a turn off. |

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...Most of those indie games he can get on Steam anyway.
PS3 will play BluRays. That and it has lots more games that I want to play, so that's why I bought it. If you wait until October, you can get the Assassin's Creed 3 bundle. Or right now there's a few Uncharted 3 bundles lying around. In general, if you are an FPS player on the PC, you will hate FPS on the 360 or PS3. I can't use the mouse-keyboard very well (too many buttons, not enough coordination), so if I play, I like to use a controller. My brother swears by Crysis - hates Gears and Halo. I agree with him that Killzone 3 was pretty disappointing, same with Resistance 1 and 2. 360 does FPS better because that's what the controller was designed for (basically to play Halo). PS3 does action, adventure, and RPGs better. I can't name an exclusive for 360 that's worth a damn that's NOT an FPS actually. Despite being free and having a better interface, few people use PSN for some reason. M$ will charge you for using Live, but it has more people. If you want to pay for online gaming experiences, then that's probably the way to go. That is, if you want to play Modern Warfare, CoD Zombies, L4D, Borderlands, Halo, etc. I don't think most of the others use multiplayer that much. Basically, look at the games. Look at what you want to do with the games and who you want to play them with. You've buying a tool to play games. If it plays BluRay, and you have BluRay discs, then that's icing on the cake. But don't get pulled in by specs. The sleep of Reason produces monsters.

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...Not without an expensive accessory that isn't even made anymore it doesn't. The thing is Microsoft is turning the Xbox into a media center. They completely lost focus on games - just watch their last press conference to see what a mess it was. With the exception of Halo 4, there isn't a single notable Xbox exclusive coming out in the near future. |
|
Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...Somewhere around 95% of games on the xbox you can get on pc for less than half the price.
By the way Forza is exclusive to xbox? |
|
Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...It is. But the PS3 has Gran Turismo 5, which, racing-game-wars aside, is more than enough to satisfy most people's need for realistic speed. |

Re: Is a PS3 worth it this late in the console gen...Thanks guys... I think I will pick a PS3 at AIT (Army National Guard in Fort Sam Houston) late this summer after BCT. I will get a Wii U just for ACIII and Pickman 3(Zelda and Metroid... someday). The PS3 can be for other exclusives... My laptop and then PC tower when I get back from AIT can run everything else.
Yeah, I don't mind the Xbox for FPS(very fun with friends in the room) but PC IS THEE ONLINE FPS system. You just can't play BF3, Firefall, Hawken, Mechwarrior, Blacklight or Plantside 2 on any other machine or you get very limited experience. Sorry but I will take my PC any day for FPS.....(and RTS/MOBA).
