With the "Things you dislike" topic I thought it only fair to represent the other side of that spectrum.
I really liked:
The art design and graphics. If anything makes Other M feel like a Metroid game to me this is it. They did a good job with the old school enemies like Rios, Zoomers, Wavers, and Side-Hoppers. A lot of the environment looks great. I especially felt that the diamond-shaped lattice-work in the walls, red computer terminals (for some reason), and some of the floors really lent the game that "Metroid feel". Also power-suited Samus has never looked better. The beams in general and the wave beam specifically also look really nice. Overall the bright vivid coloration contrasting against dark backdrops just screams Metroid to me.
The 3rd person action/gameplay/movement system. In my opinion they couldn't have done too much better with this aspect. So many 3rd person 3D games are total clunkfests. Other M is pretty slick 99% of the time. The rate of fire is satisfying and the auto-aiming worked well for me most of the time. Running, jumping, flipping, rolling, sense moving, screw attacking, space jumping, wall jumping(piece o' cake now!), they are all pretty darn great. Grappling could have been a little better but that has to do with switching to 1st person (which I won't talk about here because of the name of the topic).
I also thought it was neat that Samus uses a big trackball to control her ship.
If there was anything about Samus' characterization I enjoyed in this game it was
the playfulness between her and Anthony.
One more thing...
MB
Choogle!! MB/Melissa -I thought she was kinda cute... Queen Metroid -Though the fight was kinda disappointing... Samus' penchant for rampant brutality towards anything remotely hostile. The Ridley fight! The whole entire scene, especially Anthony's dialogue. The fact that Anthony gets attacked by Ridley and survives, falls towards lava and survives, and uses a freeze gun to save his life. Whereas Lyle dies by a Choogle (Ridley) attack, K.G. dies by falling into lava, and Maurice gets iced. Anthony is pretty bad-ass, himself. Both fights with Nightmare. The Sense move kicks major ass. And Concentration is also a welcomed addition of semi-realism. Phantoon! That whole fight was awesome!I also liked the basic sci-fi plot. It wasn't entirely cheesy, and it wasn't too serious; it was just enough of both to be entertaining.
The fact that Samus doesn't magiclly lose all her stuff
that never made sense.
Melissa
, the way the game tricked me into thinking I was playing ZM or SM (aka superb controls), Anthony. Also
Melissa
.
...And that's about it. I didn't dislike the game, but I can't think of anything else that really deserves praise.
Oh, and Choogle plus his whole build-up. And
Melissa
.

It may be a play on 'Moogle;' that's what that thing looks like to me, anyway.

I'm pretty sure that Choogle is what the scientists named it.

We named it choogle, the canon name "little birdy"

Yeah, Infinity's End created the name Choogle as one of the three evolutions of
Ridley
. It is the first form. At level 25 it digi-volves into
El Pollo Loco
and I'm unsure who coined that name which I also believe is non-canon. Finally, it quantum polarizes into it's final form if it's sufficiently fed into
Ridley
.
I thought Choogle was a play on Chocobo but made more metroidish. Either way, it's a good name for a first evolution pokemon and it stuck.

Choogle is a mix of Chocobo and Moogle if memory serves. El Polo Loco is some chicken mascot thing of something or another that apparently somehow resembles the purple lizard.

Good, responsive controls The peek inside Samus' head (regardless of how others feel) Anthony Adam Entertaining bosses (except the elevator boss) Creative touches, such as
Phantoon firing eyeballs at you
How it ties everything together (and i do think the story gets way too much flak. It's not supposed to be War and Peace, after all). edit: Plas Durock wrote:choogle and el polo loco made it to tvtropes.org
I'm to blame for that. I was bored and took a liking to the names.
Thank you infinitys End for the avvy (I never put Infinity Ward here. You don't know what you're talking about)
Now, I just need to check my e-mail more often, so I notice these things
