Before I start talking about spoiler stuff. Did anyone notice the firefly bugs? They seem to just appear and stay in that location. I have noticed two sets of them in sector 3 and one set of three in sector 2. I just beat the game today. 100% I did really good on item completion before returning too!
Ridley begins life as a fuzzy cute thing, then it opens its mouth. I absolutely did not expect Nightmare to be in the game. But then a Queen! And Phantoon! Power Loader arms=Alien 2 reference.
Also everything else was absolutely great! I'm going to play it again!

Watch the spoilers. This thread isn't marked. Did I mention I absolutely loved the intro to
Sector Zero - particularly how the lights flash on as you run through there - and the Gravity zone?
BADASS. Yes, I just played through that again on Hard Mode Likewise...
RINKAS
I also have to agree with you there, Mewtwo - the sound design is pretty amazing. I don't really mind the lack of hummable music because this game just OOZES ambience. In this regard, it is the perfect soundtrack for this game.

When those things started popping up everywhere, I was so fucking pumped. I was in the mindset of "Oh, it's ON now!"

It WAS a pretty good surprise, but definitely not what I expected. Oh, far from it.

Yes there weren't many memorable songs, but in context they worked oh so well. -The pyrosphere was amazing, those echoing sounds almost like whale songs were slightly creepy, slightly awesome. -The cryosphere's occasional loud drumbeat was kind of tension building... made me think something was coming after me. -The theme of those power bomb bugs was also pretty cool. -I also thought it was cool that the song that played in the story recap part when you continue your game was similar to the music from SM's prologue/recap. The parts that really got me though, were the parts without music at all. Notable places that I found amazing were: -The ambience in the rising water room, with the loud cicadas and kind of muffled atmosphere. Reminded me of a giant terrarium or deep jungle. -The elevator rooms: echoing footsteps and just the echoing automated voice in the background was way creepy. -The muffled sound in gravity areas.
Love love loved the sound design! Anyway, enough of my ranting.
My boyfriednd and I liked these too. He especially liked the gravity thing when he watched me play.

Uh, Cap?I'll just quote myself then. Oh, what didn't I love about this game? (Well, a couple things, but they were few and far between.) I loved... --The graphics, and how virtually seamless it all was. It really felt like playing a movie. --The gameplay. I always knew Samus was a ninja. This was so easy to play. I don't know where all the complaints about first person keep coming from, after a quick learning curve (purple blob was tricky, but Reos in the Systems Managment was cake) I was pro, and it felt really good and intuitive. Easy to play, but still challenging and an absolute blast. --Believe it or not, the story. Not nearly as horrible as everyone said. Not earth-shattering, but still engaging, especially for a scifi game that has never really had a story. Also: I love that it made the Metroidverse feel more like a real, concrete place, with a military and intrigue and lots and lots of people. Not just a faceless thing giving lines, and then leaving you on some random hunk of rock to run about. The story did have some chunks of wtf, and some unfinished plot lines, and things you didn't catch until the second run through (I'd recommend watching the theatre mode, even if you didn't like the story), but it was good. Most of all, it did exactly what it said it'd do from the start, and really gave us Samus as she is. It made her real, more than anything else, more than the manga, more than Fusion, all that. She is human, and badass, and messed up and awesome, all at once. She's got a past, and friends, and flaws, and reasons for what she does now. This game made me love Samus (in a totally platonic way) as much as or more than any other game so far. --Non-platonically, I totally love Adam now. Like, seriously. And I want to be besties with Higgs. --Believe it or not part two, the voices. Yes, there were some chunks that were off, and some monologues that made me cringe, but as a whole I was pleasantly surprised, and the voices mostly matched the lipsynching and mostly fit and worked with the story. I don't mind "girly" Samus anymore (care to note how girly Ms. Aran is, with her penchant for heels. And *spoiler* that badass jacket at the end, I want it), I have always loved how Adam and Higgs sound, and the two lines Maurice and KG had were pretty perfect. I will, however, always mock James, because he sounds like a Ninja Turtle to me.
So yes, overall, I rather liked this game.
Let me add a couple: --The music/ambiance. Yes, the music was minimal, but what was there was great. I know some peeps be hatin', but orchestrated Ridley theme is WIN. And the whole place oozed atmosphere, I found myself actually getting spooked and wondering what would pop out next. Like I said at the start of quoting myself, playing Other M was like playing a movie. And the music was incredibly cinematic. --Actually, let me elaborate on that. I said somewhere else, that ever since video games have started to have more and more cutscenes, I've often wondered what it'd be like to play a game that was like playing a movie. So often, there's an obvious line of demarcatin between game and cutscenese, and I wanted them to be more integral. Less chunk pre-boss fight or post-level, more involved. Other M is that movie game I was waiting for. Every little thing was epic, had scope. The camera was always perfectly placed, dodging minibosses felt like a kung fu movie, every slooo-mooo for a Sensemove could mean the bit where the hero deftly leaps away or the bit where the hero gets clobbered right before getting up and dishing it back. Dying felt even worse than usual this time, because it interrupted the story, and it was just getting good, darn it all.

Very fun to play, lots of action, and the sense move is really cool to. It was more than just moving sideways and jumping to dodge, plus it looked cool. And how I thought that furry white thing would actually help me out in the end...boy was I wrong...

I had a massive grin on my face when I first saw them. Despite being a completely new take on metroid, there were still lovely little nods back to the originals.

At that point, I went "Aw HELL naw! Do you see this? DO YOU SEE THIS?!" I'm pretty sure my brother, who watched me play the whole game, was laughing at me geeking out over everything.

I agree with the sound design. Durring a couple of the forced searchmodes (one of them after fighting el pollo loco) there was this really cool melodic kinda ambient techo thing going on that I really liked.

There's no longer blanket collision damage. Coming into contact with an enemy only hurts when they're launching an attack. Obviously, that's the only way that Lethal Strikes/Overblasts could work, but it's still a nice touch.
Blanket collision damage was hella annoying in Corruption, especially since the game encourages you to use the boost ball as an attack.

The graphics. The art direction's severely lacking, but from a technical standpoint it destroys just about every other Wii. Heck it dissapoints me since it makes you wonder what the bloody hell Wii developers have been playing at for the last four years. Also the basic power-ups of the old-school games translate into 3D incredibly well, the Speedboost, Shinespark, Wave Beam and so forth are all handled marveously, it's pretty much the only "Metroid" aspect of the game they did right. Let me agree with the graphics. There were times I had to refer to my minimap to figure out what parts of the background I could wander into/what I could blow up. Add to this the fact that you can go first person just about anywhere to get a better look, so you can't half-ass a wall somewhere.
