Emperor Ing's 'contribution': scans of MII Super GB Guide

Postby Emperor Ing » 09.08.10 8:27pm

Back in the day, the Super Nintendo released the Super GameBoy add-on, which was basically a prototype of the gameboy color.

Putting your GB carts into it allowed you to edit the color scheme of the game and some other pretty fun non-consequential stuff to it.

They released a guide for the Super Game Boy detailing and recommending the different color combos games should use, as well as giving general outline/guides of the games they were going over.

In the recesses of fuzzy time I no longer remember, my brother and I got the Super Game Boy guide, which was basically our way of knowing about all the games for the gameboy we didn't have and wished we had.
However, we did have SOME games. One was Link's Awakening.
Another was Super Mario Land 2.

And another was Metroid 2. The first Metroid game I ever played, until I got Prime years later.

I tried for years to beat this game before it eventually got lost or broken. But reading this guide was the equivalent of watching a LP these days, because I knew what was going on just from these scant 6 pages. I knew what the Metroids were, who Samus was, her gender, and what to do in the game (but I still could get NOWHERE in that game... 0 PROGRESS).

Anyhoo, to cut to the chase, I've scanned these for anyone's enjoyment. I thought it might be nice to add to the media library of all things Metroid, though the site might not want it (which is understandable: these are not the best scans).

I'm going to post them, but for some reason I can't attach files to this OP.

I have them uploaded here, but still...

Thanks.

I was just thinking when I scanned them:
"You know, no one really seems to know about this. But is there a demand? Then again this is the site that pines for Metroid Prime 2 Echoes manga....."

I'm the guy who pines for a decent Metroid hentai doujin.

Holy crap... I have that same guide somewhere. It would take forever to dig it out of the magazine "warehouse", though.

Oh, and good scans. :choogle:

Me and my brother seemed to have been particular about saving as much as we could of our video-game paraphernalia, at least in printed form.

Though the magazine in question is pretty beat up.

Interesting stuff; thanks for sharing! I like that Metroid Queen palette.

Squeee! I had one of those back in the day. Made Metroid 2 kick so much ass.
I loved playing with different color schemes for Samus and carefully crafted my own settings.
During the credits and final scene when she took off the suit I'd have the frame set to the movie theater one so it was like watching the end of a metroid movie.
I don't know why but that made it rock so very very hard. Nostalgiagasm!

Thanks for the bit of nostalgia. I must admit my biggest moan about Metroid 2 on the GB was the blandness and similarity of all the different landscapes - this would definitely have helped with not getting lost (which I did a lot). The queen colour scheme is especially good.

Um, hate to break it to ya, but they're already on the site:
