Weird. I took him down on my first try on Hard. Never had a lock-on problem either.

I'm not even bothering with hard mode.
It's tangentially related to another pet peeve of mine (I dunno, maybe it warrants its own thread): there's not really much difference in reward for how you beat the game. The game doesn't even show your time on the results screen, and you get bubbly, somewhat uncharacteristic praise from Samus for 100% completion. Used to be, you'd get, like, five different pictures depending on what combination of difficulty, completion % and time you got. The fact that you get all of the unlocks for 100% completion really reduces the replay value of the game.

Ya know, there is something that I felt should have been implemented in Other M, but could easily make sense in a post Fusion game. Whenever successfully implementing an Overblast or Lethal Strike, I felt as though Samus should have regenerated some health as a reward of sorts. I don't know, it just felt like a natural response. It might have made little-to-no sense in Other M, but I do think that they could make it work in a post Fusion game because of Samus' Metroid DNA. Eh, just throwing that out there.

Hard mode is actually too easy to satisfy masochists. (or it's too easy for me, at least.) The only things that gave me any difficulty were El Pollo Loco, because I didn't know you could sense move during that fight, and Ridley, because I'm just bad at that particular boss. I think they should have gone with the Zero Mission style of hard mode, and let people choose to do a 0% run if they wanted to. This also means moving some expansions around so you're not forced to collect them. Though I think they should have done that anyway, because forcing the player to collect upgrades is kind of bullshit.
I heard Metroid is a girl! Is that true???

I died more times on the default difficulty. On Hard I died several times against the two worms, several on the lift, once on Ridley, several more on
Nightmare
(the most), a couple on
the Queen
(it'a hard to go from FPV to Space Jump), and once when the pink geckos ganged up on me. Maybe I'm forgetting a few.
Hard, but not to the point of horribleness.

Just completed it. Most of the game was no different than a normal playthrough, except you had to manage your ammunition more wisely and couldn't ever slack off about dodging. Still, not a terribly frustrating experience. I actually laughed pretty hard at some of my deaths (I certainly didn't expect Rinkas to be an instant kill...) Ridley in both his forms, Nightmare's first form (god I hate dodging the beam spin in high gravity), and
the Queen
were the only troubling parts. Nothing else was really that bad. Now speedrunning normal will feel remarkably easy.
I would agree some way to speed up the death sequence should have been in the game. Especially when things towards the end kill you in the two seconds you use to try to work out a strategy.
End of Line.

You actually managed to get hit by a Rinka? Wow... I never would have known how much damage they would do unless I let myself get hit by one on purpose.

Hard mode wasn't too bad. It is definitely worth going through once to prefect your skills. However, with the complete absence of expansions it doesn't feel like metroid. So, I'll be sticking to normal from here on out, trying to get 100% as fast as possible.

I was trying to speed my way through those corridors by firing at the seeker missile locks from the entryway. When that didn't work, I got hit while charging for another try and not sensemoving fast enough. I figured I could tank a hit. It was clumsy, but probably the funniest way I died due to how stupid I was and how unusually powerful Rinkas apparently are. Don't ever underestimate the damage things can do to you if playing hard mode.
End of Line.

I forgot that you start off at your ship again after the explosion, so of course it saves your time!

I didn't like it that much. Aside from a few spots it wasn't even that challenging. With no items to hunt, I really felt like I was just rushing through it, which I hate doing in Metroid games (not a fan of speedruns at all). Also, the fact that you couldn't play the epilogue is disappointing.

I has a problems. And I don't know if this is a common problem, so I'm gonna put it all in spoiler in case other people don't wanna know what's goin on. Or something.
I finished Hard Mode, and instead of taking me back to the beginning like at the end of normal, I just keep going back to the spot I saved before I fought the Queen. Is this normal or right? What the hell is going on? I really wanted to take a shot at Phantoon on Hard, but I don't think it's possible.
WHAT'S GOING ON?!?!! Peace Raid
