I can't speak for everyone but I will say that maybe, MAYBE one of the reasons why people don't like this game is because they aren't' really familiar with Samus' past and the manga--what they showcased or highlighted in this game.

I'll give you an real-life exsample, one of my best friend told me about how he thought of Other M and he told me flat out that they made her into some kind of a pussy-- I asked him if he knew the real story of Samus' up-bringing or have read the manga but he just ignored what I said and went on a raging frenzy in how this game was weakening Samus's character. He also bitched to me how he thought it was utterly stupid that Adam had to control her moves and said that Samus should have been more of an Babafet and shot Adam for commanding her in just a way.

The moral of my story is this... lots of gamers including myself have their own vision of how Samus acts, and feels. We have gone without her voice for such a all period of time that a gamer in this type of mysterious character environment will create their own interpretations for a character. Now that this game has surfaced and that the creator (or one of the creators) has showed us his vision of the real Samus-- your bound to get a ton of whip-lash.

I think the reason that there is so much division and strong feelings is because Other M was hyped so much. It was portrayed and advertised as the ultimate culmination of the Metroid experience and the savior of the series. I think most people would agree that it didn't meet that benchmark even if you like it a great deal. That basically set us up for the potential of either a huge disappointment or huge relief. Hence the polarization IMO.

I didn't care for the manga, though I didn't really hate it, but apparently (as of Other M at least) it isn't canonical anyway.

Was it ever? If so when?

Well, it could have been canon (Sakamoto supervised it), but apparently he either changed his mind or it was more of a non-canonical side project to begin with. But we're probably getting offtopic.

Oh shit, it begins. Big Brother is censoring the masses!

Although to be fair, I never read Dragonheart91's post.

Gotta wonder what it was.

This thread should be locked anyway. Maybe they'll just delete all the posts.
