I'm not too familiar with the sonic franchise, but I always got the idea that the majority of sonic fans hated the 3D games. Kinda like how most metroid fans dislike hunters, but again not familiar with sonic or his fanbase.
A pretty large section want nothing to do with them. But there's also a very large section that just ADORES them(particularly, Sonic Adventure 2).
And yes, I know its blasphemy to be a Metroid fan and not like Super Metroid or Metroid Prime 1, but here I am. I found Super Metroid slow, clunky, confusing, and honestly really boring. Atmospheric my black ass
I felt pretty similar with MP1, but with lots of tedious backtracking("oh joy, got certain item in Phandaria Drifts, time to backtrack through the whole level, all the way through Magmoor Caverns, just to get back to this one item in Chozo Ruins, wheeee"). My favorite Metroid games are more linear, faster-paced affairs in Fusion and Prime 3.
