Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw's a pretty popular game reviewer, at least for entertainment purposes, so I guess this was inevitable: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/ ... id-Other-MI'm going to preemptively post this here before someone else does so we can start out on the right foot and have a sane and balanced discussion. Some ground rules/observations: - Yahtzee isn't a big Metroid fan; although he's played a few other games in the series, he doesn't follow it closely and hasn't been involved in the ongoing debates. He has no special attachment to Samus' character.
- Also, because of this, he doesn't know Yoshio Sakamoto was the writer/director and gives Team Ninja credit for everything. This annoyed me, but apparently this is the perception outside of Metroid fandom.
- He's a notoriously harsh critic, such that a game has to be really exceptionally good before he'll even admit to liking it; this is part of his schtick. Grudging compliments are usually the best you can expect from him. Please bear this in mind.
- Before you say, "Person X {liked, hated} really only {liked, hated} the game because of Y," stop. Don't even bother posting. If someone liked or hated the game, they can speak for themselves. Don't start attributing hidden motivations to people, or putting words in their mouths.
- If someone says something which is factually incorrect, feel free to dispute the claim, so long as you are prepared to offer evidence to that effect. (But let Yahtzee's misconception about Team Ninja being solely responsible for the game go. We know already, and it has no bearing on the rest of the review.)
- No ad hominem attacks. For example, don't suggest that Person Z's opinion can be ignored "because they're a douche".
- I'm going to bend my own rule a bit and say that the comments on the site in response the video are just sad, at least as far as I got through them. Reading them is probably not a good use of your time.

Ha ha, mental, I have posted this before YOU! Anyhoo, I thought this was pretty funny. Yahtzee is a guy i kinda only take-barely-seriously as a game reviewer, and watch for entertainment purposes. In the same way that Spoony's review of FFVIII is not indicative that FFVIII sucked, because he made it as an entertaining and funny rant. And, as I said in the 'funny videos about Other M' thread, this video essentially sums up Yahtzee and his reviews: LolThe part about dodging bricks whilst wearing brick earrings was pretty funny.

I think that's the funniest review I've ever seen. I couldn't stop laughing. It's too bad he didn't like the game, but his summary of the plot is dead on.

The part when Samus started crying and then had her period made me lol. mental, I didn't take your warning, but I can substantiate this point: mental wrote:He's a notoriously harsh critic, such that a game has to be really exceptionally good before he'll even admit to liking it; this is part of his schtick. with this comment: We seem to have accidentally discovered another game he likes. Not [Other M] of course, but Prime, that brings the total up to what now, 4 games?
He must be reeeeeeeaally tough haha.

I suspect he avoids reviewing games if he likes them.

I don't normally keep up with the dude, but I hear he's made a positive review or two.

Zero Punctuation is probably one of the most entertaining things on the internet. I don't always agree with it, but I almost always laugh at it. It's just Yahtzee's thing. I liked Other M but am having no need to rage about this.
Although he should have paid closer attention with the traitor thing, because it was resolved. Nice quess, though.

Haha, I just noticed the morph ball skit in the end credits. I guess a reference to that log entry in Prime?

I was hoping Unskippable would do Other M, rather than Zero Punctuation. I do love me some Unskippable, while Yahtzee gets a samey after awhile.

I dunno. What about this was funny? I thought it was a very well thought-out review.

For the most part his reviews are for entertainment purposes only. His reviews aren't meant to be taken seriously.

I don't know what you're talking about. I found the review to be very balanced and unbiased, and it showed a lot of professionalism. I was impressed, I didn't get the impression that he was mocking the game at all. Yahtzee is a very respectable reviewer.

The two things Yahtzee does like is Portal and the Half Life series.
