I remember a quote from Sakamoto stating that he couldn't do a game post Fusion without doing Other M first. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be much that can carry over from Other M into a game post-Fusion, but there has to be something there because he brought it up. So I thought it'd be a nice time to discuss what could actually be brought over. Now keep in mind that we're assuming that this corrupt GF idea is going to be the main focus of the game.
A few theories that came to mind (there might be more):
- Adam is not dead and is evil - MB is alive - Unfreezable Metroids existing - Anthony as a possible love interest to Samus
All of these are good/interesting theories, but I'd have to put my money on Adam not being dead, and being evil while Unfreezable Metroids coming back.
- Unfreezable Metroids We're told by Adam that Unfreezable Metroids exist, but we don't know if it's true or not. There is an instance where this is shown second-hand, but nothing is concrete. My guess is that they do exist, but at the time of Other M they weren't completely done and actually died out after a while; in essence, they couldn't figure out how to make the coating stick.
Enter Metroid Fusion where Samus is injected with Metroid DNA. At the beginning, she's vulnerable to cold just like all Metroids, but after getting the Varia Suit/SA-X DNA, she's immune to cold/Ice Beam. What does this mean? She's an unfreezable Metroid and a very hot commodity by the GF at this point since her DNA now holds the key to Unfreezable Metroids being kept alive. This would tie well into the idea of her being on the run from the GF.
- Adam is not dead and also evil In Samus' flashbacks, we're not really shown anything in terms of how Adam acting any differently towards Samus than anyone else, even after she couldn't accept his decision to sacrifice his brother. However, he just stands there, standing as bored as ever. We get a little bit of compassion from him at the end, albeit a bit awkwardly done. He sacrifices himself, but we never see Sector Zero explode like the Drive Shaft containing Ian (A real American hero that one), so you have to wonder if he's dead or not.
Then there's the issue with the Old General. How did he get there so fast? And how did he know that Samus was there and that she performed admirably? The only people who knew Samus was there were on the ship, and most of them were dead. It could've only been Anthony, MB, Madeline (somehow...) or Adam if he somehow got in contact with them before he died (or some escape pod located in Sector Zero). Them getting there isn't the issue, them KNOWING about Samus being there is, especially when communications were supposedly down.
Anyone care to come up with their own theory, expand upon these, or refute my own?

There is nothing below the surface of this game.MB is alive Nope.Unfreezable Metroids existing Who cares? As Samethard pointed out a while ago, unfreezable Metroids haven't bothered Samus in 90% of the games.

I'm not the one to get into a long discussion on the subject, but I've always hoped that there is going to be something more to Other M's awkward story. Hopefully it was all make sense with the post-fusion game.

I agree 100%.

I thought an alike thread was made about this but, oh well. One aspect no one has made yet is the fact that Ridley can evolve and there are one then one Ridley-- he has a species. This might be useful in the future games.

They made Nightmare lame enough in Other M. Let's just let Fusion Nightmare rest in peace.

What if, in the next game, Samus encounters a new Nightmare that is no longer in the development phase is part of the actual production line? Fully upgraded and ready for serious business.

I really liked Nightmare in Other M. But, I feel as if that Nightmare from Fusion is the last we will see him for a while. (Think about it. The way his face melted off like that, I won't be surprised that he spent all of the money he got from that gig for facial reconstruction surgery. lol) What we need is KRAID!
My guess is that Phantoon got the spot for the secret boss in Other M is because since he was way too big to fit in the bottle ship, he was the only one who could move around in outer space without suffocating. I guess Kraid could have been in outer space as the secret boss, but think about it. How threatening is Kraid that happens to be wearing an astronaut's bubble helmet? That's not scary, it's down right hilarious.

idk, what we need is a boss battle where we have kraid in a spaceman suit commanding an army of, oh say, 100 minikraids, all of varying colors, while we blast them and then him.

Kraid should definitely be in the next game, but giving him his own equipment set would be a bit much. I'd personally like a 'travel the innards of Kraid' puzzle myself.

I...uh...please tell me you didn't have that image made up beforehand. Also, it sounds ridiculous and awesome.
Also, the whole Anthony as a love interest to Samus theory is something I'd like to expand upon.
I know some people don't like Anthony, but that relationship was pretty well developed in my opinion. While the Adam-Samus relationship was clearly supposed to be the forefront, it didn't seem quite right, either because it's wrong or it was just delivered badly. However, you could definitely see a good friendship between Samus and Anthony. Personally, with all the tragedy in Samus' life, it'd be nice to see her have a "natural relationship" for once that isn't marred by tragedy. I'm not saying make it gameplay related either, just postgame.

Yes, you could see a friendship between them, but it wasn't developed. It was just there. Samus, as always, monologues it at us ("Anthony Higgs--a soldier I knew. We were friends. He did X, X, and X and I had X reaction. I haven't seen him in a while") in boring tell-and-don't-show fashion. This is the complete opposite of development.
I am neutral on the idea of Anthony as a love interest, but you can't say Other M contributed anyting towards that idea. It contributed nothing anywhere.
EDIT: My rate for collecting items is 1000%.
