Actually, 3 is almost done; I just need to proof it one more time. 4 is being typeset. I'm waiting for scans of 5.

I'mma try to get you chapter 5 scans this coming week.

I'm currently through about 20 pages of cleaning. Once those are cleaned i'll send a clean japanese version and then start typesetting those. Hopefully another week maybe two on chapter 4.

Ok, so it's been about six months, but Chapter 3 is finally up! I said in the news post that 4 and 5 have been translated, and that's true! We're just typesetting and editing. Anyway, there's a couple explosions in there that are pretty cool, so the artist is pretty good even if the story leaves something to be desired. I think the story would be more enjoyable if Joey wasn't so obnoxious - he's far too extreme. I'm also experimenting with our footnotes tool. It's got a couple of bugs, but at the bottom of a few images, there's a little extra text in case you are interested. (mostly towards the end - there really wasn't much to say about the first few pages!)

Thank you all for doing this, I enjoyed reading chapter 3. I also enjoyed the footnotes. :3

My favorite part: [spoiler]When Samus went up to the Metroid-monster-thing and used her ice beam and yelled,
"If it's got the Metroid's abilities...This mode... Ice Beam! Freeze and Break-!! -SUPER MISSILE!" *ka-pow*
I thought those lines were amazing along with the panels. It got me all fired up.[/spoiler]

I'm wondering where the Power Bombs and/or Screw Attack are. They're pretty much perfect for that kind of situation assuming it isn't absorbed.

Remember the first issue of this, when Samus was a total jerk? That was awesome, I wish she'd do that again.

I'll agree that the 'doesn't-give-a-fuck' Samus is a wonderful portrayal and is sorely missed.

I like how that torch has the word "Space" with it.

It's a torch. FROM SPAAAAACE!

It's also quite goofy how Samus yells out every single attack(SUPER MISSILE! POWER BOMB! GRAPPLE BEAM! SPIDER BALL! SHIIINNESPAAARK!). I'm still not convinced by the Megaroids, though atleast it's a bit better than the previous one.

So, it's been 7 months since the last chapter was posted. I'm just wondering if we're going to see the other chapters or if this project is dead in the water.

Oh you know, I guess I DID kind of forget about this! I got real busy last fall and then got the Aether manga and so it slipped my mind!

Same with the Aether manga, Vol 1 has been translated (and I think cleaned...). So it's just a matter of finishing the typesetting and editing some things. I think there was just something with the fonts that we needed to clear up.

Well, that's the first five chapters of Samus & Joey. Not the greatest thing put into print, but the artwork (particularly Samus) is certainly good, along with her characterization (I mean c'mon! She snatched a bullet in mid-air during a hostage crisis). The artwork quality should be expected, as Idzuki Kouji is a fairly respected manga artist. The new characters have been hit or miss - mostly miss - with about the only interesting ones being minor characters (i.e. lizard space pirates from Chapter 1). I think we all want to kick Joey in the ass, and I still think Megaroids sound like a disease you don't want to catch... Although in retrospect, I probably could have changed the name to something like 'Megatroid' rather than the literal translation. But I suppose it all fits with the campy nature of the manga. And yes, Diesel's shop DOES look like Dr. Doppler's fortress.

Anyway, what interest is there in seeing more of Samus & Joey?
