That kind of thing was literally illegal at one time. But it happens. Disrespect is a matter of opinion.
That being said, I am not a fan of such cosplaying.

Re: Metroid CosplayIf I may throw in my two cents; The way I see it, Samus is so fashionable, people are copying her. I mean, hey look what happened to the American flag.

Re: Metroid Cosplay
I think more then enough people above me covered it. If she wants to be a slut, she shouldn't be ruining metroid with such a poor image. A more reasonable character to do this for would have been a girl from the dead or alive series. Would Samus ever wear an outfit like that? No. ![]() |

Re: Metroid CosplayCome to think of it, I haven't ever seen any Kasumi cosplays yet. What gives?
Back on topic, I wonder how many people who know Samus actually played Metroid? ![]()

Re: Metroid Cosplay
The impression I get is that most zero suit cosplayers probably did not (especially the recent ones) I noticed an explosion of zero suit cosplayers after brawl came out. Granted, they probably tried out a few metroid games out of curiosity (especially zero mission, that shit is easy if you are playing it on normal), but overall, they rub me off as girls that just played brawl. Especially when they do that generic "gun up leg lift" pose in every single shot. Hell, I have been wanting to cosplay zero suit samus the SECOND I saw her appear in zero mission. I also wanted to do the Justin Bailey outfit for ages. The fact that Samus used to have green hair in her first game makes me feel like she went through some silly rebellious teenager stage where she decided to dye her hair green. Jessica Nigri gives me the impression that she never played metroid, and if she did, she would probably throw her controller and cry. ![]() |
|
Re: Metroid Cosplaywell i think its at least 10x better then that burlesk samus cosplay. Now that is disrespective.
Im indifferent about Jessica Nigri. Shes got the body to show it off and she knows it. She knows geeks will flock to her if she dresses up like that. My guess she does it mainly for "selflovin" fodder... VGM out... Super Metroid, the most perfect game ever created! Period!

Re: Metroid CosplayIf thus is 10x better than the other one you mentioned, then do NOT show me the other suit!

Re: Metroid Cosplay
True, before Brawl was announced, almost nobody even knew about Samus in her Zero Suit. This case even sounds very similar to the people who idolize Captain Falcon, yet never even played any F-Zero games for shit. They know who he is, but they don't know about what series he's from. Nor do they even bother to know. Not to mention, Falcon is nothing like that in the F-Zero games. Not only is the lack of games in aeons killing the F-Zero series, but so is the false advertising like that. Besides, let's take a look at how each game fared in sales. Now, what do you think this tells you? And this may not be related, but here's a Jody Summer cosplay. If she didn't get recognized there, then well... Re: Metroid CosplayFound a few new pics of my Torizo costume around the web. Also decided on helping my girlfriend with a similar Super Metroid Varia sprite-costume for this summer. I'll be reworking mine a bit, as well. Ought to make for some nice shoots.

Re: Metroid CosplayLet's come up with a fun little theory based on some all-encompassing conclusions based on evidence of life experience and the internet, shall we? Here we go...
2.) Most people who see the Samus for the first time usually assume a.) she's a guy or some kind of robot and b.) her name is "Metroid" 3.) Teenage boys who play video games are nerdy and socially awkward. 4.) Teenage boys who are nerdy and socially awkward are very horny. 5.) Judging by game sales, Super Smash Bros. series is infinitely more popular/more played than the Metroid series. 6.) Hot girls enjoy being oogled for their beauty by teenage boys at anime conventions. FACT: Metroid was released in 1986 FACT: Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released in 2008 (22 years later) FACT: Super Smash Bros. Brawl was the first game that "openly revealed" Samus's true nature (i.e. being a female human) even though every, single Metroid game up until then, in one form or fashion, reveals Samus to be a woman at the very end of the game. (Justin Bailey from M1 and Prime's visor reflections/cutscenes are non-withstanding, you have to play the games to see them) THEORY: Gamers don't know shit about Metroid, and knew jack-all about Samus before Smash Bros. Brawl. After Samus's identity was "out in the open" after Brawl, girls jumped on it and started cosplaying at ZSS, even though they weren't a fan of the series. (#6 applies here)Now, I know this is definitely NOT the case for Zadra and Mewtwo (who prob. wouldn't be here anyway if they weren't fans of the series) but more long the lines for the "general populace" of gamer chicks/cosplayers. Discuss? |

Re: Metroid CosplayWhat I find kind of ironic is that the cosplayers who only cosplay to have nerds oggle over them tend to look much less attractive than cosplayers who cosplay because they love the character. When you think about them, that makes them completely useless, since all they want is to be oggled over.

Re: Metroid Cosplay@Infinity's End: Read my other post above about the same deal, but with F-Zero, which has it much much worse.
Yes, it is true. Most (not all, thanks) Smash Bros. fans have little to no knowledge of the games that it represents, nor do they even have any damn interest in finding out. Even people who sincerely think that Mr. G&W is an actual character, which he isn't. SSB is fooling them into thinking that he is, and they're right falling for it. Also with Zelda. In the times of Melee, people thought that Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were the only Zelda games there were, thus ignoring any others. Come Brawl, people screwed those off and now get all over Twilight Princess and Wind Waker only, still not the others. I remember how WarioWare used to have such a booming fanbase, but later on, probably when Brawl came around, it seems to have vanished, and people forgot all about the other characters in that series who aren't Wario. Granted, it lets us in on what more Nintendo has to offer, but how many people are actually willing to do some research instead of being the tag-along who was introduced to them by Melee or Brawl? Not many, I'd say. ...Admittedly, I first found out about Samus and Metroid from SSB 64 and Melee, but later on I went and bought all three of the Metroid Prime games (plus Hunters), picked up Super Metroid (I never owned a GBA though, so I missed Fusion and Zero Mission, also a few others. Before anyone jumps me on how I haven't played all of them and not be a "true" Metroid fan, thank you very much...). And here I am, loving the Metroid series as it is! |

Re: Metroid CosplayThis is my theory. Any zero suit cosplayers seen doing this pose repeatedly:
![]() Have probably never picked up a Metroid game and simply decided to cosplay "that girl in the hot blue suit from smash" I don't want to single this girl out, granted her costume is quite good. But I see her doing that damn pose in EVERY picture. ![]() There are plenty of other poses to come up with, but girls like this only know the signature "brawl" pose. P.S: I hate that pose. She looks like a goddamn ballerina. ![]() |
