I kid, but I like what he says in the end. It's something alot of us should pay more careful attention to, than just whine and only look at a few things and extrapolate them. |

Re: Other M in extra creditsThat was a really good piece. Thanks for the link to it.
As to how Other M handled the maternity issues? Very poorly. It never even attempts to touch upon the empowering aspects of mothermood, focusing instead completely on how it weakens a character. Samus Aran and Madeline Bergman are, with no subtlety whatsoever, the mothers in the story, and both are weakened by their role. Samus loses basically all her self-confidence and independence, and Madeline basically causes the entire disaster by encouraging the Mother Brain android to identify as her daughter and then failing to stand up for or protect her when that identity is challenged. Motherhood can also be empowering. That's an aspect Sakamoto never attempted to explore. Yeah, Samus kicking Mother Brain's ass back in Super Metroid totally counts, but that's Super Metroid. Not Other M. Well, apart from a flashback. "I'd better wait until Samus kills that Metroid before I shoot her in the back. After all, I don't know if my freeze gun will work on it."

Re: Other M in extra creditsThere is also all the other bosses Samus fought.
If she's truly weak, how in the world did she defeat them? that honestly, to this day, mindboggles me. Same case on the Ridley boss battle. |

Re: Other M in extra creditsI actaully liked Madeline Bergman, her atachment to MB actually feel like a strong bond betwen mother and daugther.
I was poorly builded but had a lot of potential (like the rest of the game) ass for the video I actually find interesting what people inside the industry think about the game. since they have criteria that normal gamer don`t have. |

Re: Other M in extra credits
I think the whole losing of her self-confidence thing could've worked if it was explained better at the opening. Because you have to remember that Samus failed in her role as a mother in Super Metroid and that's where this story picks up. You can get that she's depressed and is in mourning, but she should kinda have more thoughts there. Motherhood CAN BE empowering, but that probably isn't the point of the story. Besides, motherhood really isn't a driving force in Other M. It still wouldn't explain everything else that happens in that story. Even the strongest of people can have their faith broken. Mine has.

Re: Other M in extra creditsWHAT IS THIS SHIT.
This is the most BLATANT, SHAMELESS ripoff of the Whiteboard on 1up.com. Like, disgustingly so. (You want to watch fun, worthwhile, thought-provoking, videos that are actually written by an actual, intelligent person? Watch them.) Do people really, truly not know anything anymore about creativity? I remember when the Escapist was actually about professional journalism and good writing, instead of childish humor and bad jokes, which is basically what it's turned into now. Also -- the dude's voice is ANNOYING. If you have a lot to say, don't fucking put your whole goddamn fucking speech through some kind of audio filter that makes it higher pitched than it really is. If your goal is to talk fast, TALK FAST. We don't want to hear your whiny, high pitched voice. It grates on the ears. Last, they basically took small little jabs at Other M the entire video. Even though there was possibly 30 seconds or more where they said a few good things about Samus as a character. MOM doesn't suck, you assholes. The more backlash I hear about MOM from "professional" game journalists, the more it pushes me away from them. So thanks guys, I'll never watch an "Extra Credits" vid ever again. In the end, the sad part about MOM, despite of its good and bad points, is it's completely divided this community. And I doubt we'll ever recover from it. |

Re: Other M in extra creditsHe's about a year too late.
I also find it funny how somebody would actually take that bull of an article "Elephant in the Room" seriously. Yeah, he finds that article "fantastic", as he said in the comment section. I think I just died a little inside. |

Re: Other M in extra credits
I'm not going to sift through 17 pages of pure MOM argument, as I'm sure that's what it is, but I'll just take your word for it. I'm also not going to listen to anything by ExtraCreditz ever again. |

Re: Other M in extra credits
Good choice for the former. The latter, well... The guy does have some other videos with very good arguements and points which I very much agree on several occasions. Just because this one wasn't all that good, doesn't the rest of them is equally not all that good. But hey, it's your decision. |

Re: Other M in extra creditsCommunities are divided and united all the time. The story of Other M divides people because it's ambiguous and people really don't understand what certain scenes and lines of dialog mean. Just because something has a million different interpretations doesn't mean there isn't a single truth. Once that single truth is given to us, the community will unite...hopefully.
You can talk about piecing together pieces of a puzzle all you want, and apparently Nintendo is doing that as well, but they really didn't give us a concrete answer about the meaning of the story, nor the point of it. That is the dividing issue here. As far as this guy being a journalist, he's not. He just makes videos. A real journalist/writer can see the gaping flaws in any argument, whether they write it or read it. Even the strongest of people can have their faith broken. Mine has.

Re: Other M in extra credits
Story and gameplay segregation. Cutscene Samus is rescued from certain death on three seperate occasions. Cutscene Samus slows to a crawl whenever she's within running distance of an antagonist. Gameplay Samus kicks ass and looks awesome doing it. Gameplay Samus makes Ridley her bitch. Wow, that was easy. Consider your mind unboggled. EDIT: Wait, wasn't "Elephant in the room" a satirical article? I read it as an example of how the story could be taken into completely wrong context due to poor writing. The author of it even makes a point of showing the more far more likely (and inoffensive) explanations for the oddities before leading to the "elephant" argument. "I'd better wait until Samus kills that Metroid before I shoot her in the back. After all, I don't know if my freeze gun will work on it."

Re: Other M in extra credits
If that is the case, then we have about a thousands of people completely missing the point and cite the article as a legit arguement. I really can't decide which is more depressing. |

Re: Other M in extra creditswait, I´m confuse who thought the elephant in the room article was "fantastic"?
