I love him really Yeah that's the term I was looking for, symbolic imagery. |

Re: Size of GFS Olympus?
Oh me too. But every family needs a crazy cousin who has conspiracy theories. And any time I can assist with terminology, I will. *bows* "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."

Re: Size of GFS Olympus?Hopefully it's got its own transporter. Hell, with the size of that thing I'd be surprised if that thing had any less than 20 transporters. So screw the shuttles! Just tap your combadge and request to be beamed down!
I hate KingBroly theories. I used to take them seriously, but that was before HYRUL3 pointed out the should-have-been-obvious trolling involved in the "The World Needs Metroid 5" thread. ---------------------- Anyways, back on topic. I always estimate ship size in relation to a Galaxy-Class flagship (such as a certain NCC-1701-D). The Olympus appears to be about half again the length, the same height, and about the same width as the Enterprise's saucer section. And finally, that ventral fin. I'm guessing the height of five saucer sections. (or 2.5 complete ships.) Let's compare the Enterprise dimensions to the Olympus. Length: 642.5 Meters x 1.5 Width: 467.0 Meters x 1 Height: 137.5 Meters x 1 Fin: 137.5 Meters x 2.5 Thus, the Olympus' dimensions are as follows: Length = 963.75 Meters, or just shy of one kilometer. Width = 467.0 Meters, a little short of half a kilo. Height = 137.5 Meters, seems like an easy spacewalk to me! And that damn fin comes out to be 343.75 Meters! That's nearly a third the whole freakin' ship! Compared to these dimensions, Samus has barely explored five percent of the ship's corridors and rooms. (estimate) Note: This was done entirely by viewer's estimation, and may not be accurate. ![]()

Re: Size of GFS Olympus?
These sound like pretty reasonable estimates. Good work. "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."

Re: Size of GFS Olympus? No clue what the size of the Olympus is.
However, the VIXIV is 350m long (check the upper-left corner of the dev art). You can get a more accurate guess of the size of the Olympus by looking at a spaceship flying close to it. We have a more or less accurate measurement of the fighter craft, so you can use that as a model. Actually, if you've got the model viewer, shouldn't there be an in-game model that puts both together? RE: Manga: 'Soft Canon'. It was overseen by Yoshio Sakamoto and so while some of the characters, places, and events are canonical, the story and the details are sketchy. I'd trust it about as far as you can throw it (which is more trustworthy than trying to throw the Olympus, but ultimately won't get you very far) The sleep of Reason produces monsters.

Re: Size of GFS Olympus?Another question I've been thinking about recently is: what weapons does the Olympus posses?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16fwgZGzLS0#t=1m55s If you'll look there, it seems to have four rapid-fire beam cannons. But, it isn't seen using any other weapons is it? 4 beam canons isn't extremely fearsome firepower, so that can't be all it has. |

Re: Size of GFS Olympus?
Admiral Dane just didn't see the use of its concussion missile batteries worthy of his epic approval at that time. If I remember its scans correctly, the Olympus was fitted with an Aurora Unit mainly to reduce the crew requirement of a ship its size. That scan explicitly notes that what space would have gone towards crew facilities was used for more weapons aboard ship. (Read: more magazines for the concussion missile batteries. Or bigger capacitors for the railguns to make them more powerful. Or more docking facilities for the Stiletto-Class Fighters.) Given the swarms of fightercraft deployed in that fight sequence, I'm guessing they are the Olympus' primary weapon. It is a flagship, not a combat vessel. It simply serves as a place for Dane to set up his flag as Admiral. Where on the Olympus are the astromech droids kept? Are they autonomous, or puppets of AU 242's control? And do Stiletto fightercraft have sockets for them? (I sure hope at least Artoo and Threepio made it out alive!) I also wonder who the captain of the Olympus is. The admiral is NEVER the captain of his flagship. That job befalls upon that ship's individual captain. The admiral is in command of ALL ships, as if they were one. (Which is why the admiral never goes down with his flagship. He's supposed to move his flag to another ship, while the captain goes down with his ship.) Who knows, maybe the Galactic Federation's command structure is different from the United Federation's command structure, which is different from the Galactic Republic's chain of command. ![]()

Re: Size of GFS Olympus?Wait, but where was it stated that the Olympus had concussion missiles? Could you possibly provide a link?

Re: Size of GFS Olympus?
DOES THE WORD "FANON" MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU?!?!?! Any reasonable ship builder ought to have some sort of guided missile technology. That's what I'm counting on. (Granted, the Federation, as far as I have seen, isn't very reasonable. More like corrupt.) ![]()

Re: Size of GFS Olympus? You're right. From what we've seen the GF favor ballistic weapons for their small size. The size of the plasma cannon + it's long recharge time in Other M is evidence that their fancy laser gun tech isn't that great.
|
|
Re: Size of GFS Olympus? That's a portable device though, I would assume their stationary weaponry would be much better.
|
|
Re: Size of GFS Olympus?
It would be, but that would also make their stationary missile batteries better as well. So ballistic missiles are still better than the lasers used. (And they're said to be railguns, so I would assume a physical bullet is involved.) Besides, they aren't stationary. Ships do move through space, you know... ![]()

Re: Size of GFS Olympus?
Well, the super large text is kind of obnoxious. It sounds like you're being both extremely loud, and somewhat condescending. But I'm sure that was completely unintentional, so I'm just telling you for future reference. Caps will do that. Also, it seems to me the GF only takes a turn for the worst towards the end of the series (Other M, Fusion), and up until then it seems fairly reliable. Anyways, is it possible to Scale the Olympus against Samus's (Samus'? Samuses?) Gunship? I'm certain that there's a size for it somewhere. After that, you'd just have to put the models side by side and see how it is. Or extrapolate from the cutscene, which sounds a lot harder. Remember Me?

Re: Size of GFS Olympus?
I seriously hope you're not serious about that last bit. Weaponry on a form of transport of any kind is referred to as stationary as apposed to portable. Another point I'd like to bring up is that the GFS Olympus is different from the GFS Valhalla. I mean, they're both Olympus-class star ships so why are there big differences in the ship? I mean, in the bay were the stiletto-class star ships are being fixed there are two doors (Excluding the bay doors). In the Olympus they lead to a Missile expansion room and an elevator to an external entrance (I think) respectively. On the Valhalla they lead to a control room that in turn leads to a room with (As far as I remember) a data log with fuel cell data and the other door leading to an area that I don't think ever appeared on the Olympus. |
