metroid portal

Postby Mr. McIHOP » 01.17.09 10:45pm

wouldnt it be interesting if someone made a metroid version of portal? i mean, it could be interesting, heres what i think:

Samus would be the person with the portal gun, Mother Brain/AU 213 would kinda be like GLaDOS, and thats all i can think of.....feel free to snowball on this idea....heck, make it for all i care!
okay, so you put the lime in the coconut...now what?

Well its a cool idea, but what I want is the Arm Cannon and Hud for Garrys Mod. I mean they already have the Varia Suit and ZSS Model but wheres the Arm Cannon and Hud. That would be leet!

Would Ridley be the companion cube?

Doesn't really sound much beyond sticking Metroid characters in a different setting.
I mean, if you want to make the mod, go for it.

How 'bout porting the HL2 Zero Suit Samus/Alyx mod and somehow replacing Chell with it? Then maybe someone could create a Mother Brain model for GLaDOS and some more Metroid-y turrets like the ones in Tourian.

GLaDOS and Mother Brain have a lot in common.

no, because both seemd good (in MB's case the first metroid manga volume) but both tried to kill you, and if you note in one of the metroid manga volumes, MB's sphere thingee follows samus and tells here some kind of challenge highly doubting her survival. plus, instead of neurotoxin, it would be the green acidy stuff from SRX from Metroid Fusion. maybe GLaDOS' replacement could either be mother brain or AU 213.....eh, both are evil, so.....but once i buy gmod, i'll see what i can do. (wierd huh? i have a great idea, but i dont have the equipment to do so....ah, well.)

I'm not sure I agree there. In my opinion, GLaDOS never really seemed to be a good character. Just some crazy AI forcing you to run through a maze in the name of SCIENCE.
I'm a bit of a collector. I'm open to suggestions on games, but I only like quality.

Hmm, I don't know, I always thought Mother Brain is way more like SHODAN(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHODAN) from System Shock 1 & 2. Less humorous and way more creepy than GLaDOS.

Thanks to DavidStrife on deviantART for his work:

And also thanks to myself on deviantART for my work:

Can the Aperture Science version of the Maru Mari (Morphing Ball) act as a Personality Core? (You know, like the four cores you knock off GLaDOS, Wheatley, Space/Adventure Cores, etc?) Or at the very least, allow Samus to attach to an empty Core slot on GLaDOS' body? (Long enough to place a Power Bomb right on her!) Or if the Spider Ball could allow Samus to move along those Management Rails we see Wheatley attached to.

Oh, that is wonderful. Now I need a Portal mod that replaces Chell's model with this. Shoot, I have the Xbox port of Portal 2! I need a better computer so I can get my modding back!

Another thing to think of would be making a Super Metroid ROM hack based on Portal. That would actually be pretty cool. I'm not sure if the portals themselves would be possible, but the basic theme and storyline could be transferred pretty well. Plus that suit would look sick.

I've been thinking about that superficially for a short amount of time now, myself, and I just can't think of a way to make the portal system work well on a 2D engine. There just aren't enough planes in the 2D world for any sort of portaling to be fun & puzzling. Though I could be wrong.
And for reference, I draw my portals-in-the-2D-realm qualms from that Portal Flash game. It's sort of fun at first, but its restrictions wear themselves out way too fast and leave way too many limitations with the puzzles and level designs (from a fun-not-frustrating standpoint).

Portals would work much better in a Prime or Other M style of Metroid game, with the first-person controls and that whole 3rd dimension thingy. The best thing would be to work with the Source engine and hammer out a Metroid veneer over it with the inclusion of the ASHPD.

Also, those personality cores in the place of the pauldrons on Sam's power suit would be annoying as Hell since Ninty would go down the Navi route with 'em.
(Read in a British accent) "Hey! Hey, Samus! Hey! Lady in red- I mean orange! Shoot that thing! Shoot that thing over there! C'mon! Shoot it with everything you've got! Hey! You see that glowing artifact-like thingy over there? Don't touch that! They told me that if I ever touched anything like that, I would die. You don't want that on your conscious, do you? I didn't think so. So don't touch that. Please don't touch that. Alright, alright. Maybe I ought to have some of that more courageous attitude in me. Go ahead and touch that artifact thingy. ...But please tell me if I die. It seems like something I'd like to know."

Portal Flash did it quite effectively. Of course, Super Metroid's engine wasn't made for that sort of thing.

That brings us back to our original problem of it being too difficult.

Well, then you might as well just make the Portal mod in the first place! If you can make a Metroid Source mod, you don't need portals anymore. It's a Metroid source mod.
Also, those personality cores in the place of the pauldrons on Sam's power suit would be annoying as Hell since Ninty would go down the Navi route with 'em.

Well, Wheatley wasn't THAT annoying. I suppose he wasn't with you for very long, either. Anyway, I don't think her pauldrons would have voices anyway.
