Re: Metroid II DX?Color. Color for M2 looks....
I want it. Is this being made or something, or is it just for show? |
|
Re: Metroid II DX?If only you read the news post, InoFan...
Anyway, I'd really like Metroid II with color for the 3DS's Virtual Console or something, but I doubt it will happen. And there's another thing... If Sakamoto doesn't like remaking games, where did Zero Mission come from? I personally loved it, and would be extremely happy if something similar happened to Return of Samus. |

Re: Metroid II DX?I think CapCom meant that Sakamoto prefers to to work with new designs, and doesn't like "remaking" games unless there are significant changes (like Zero Mission). Right before Other M was released, Sakamoto was asked about the possibility of remaking other classic titles, and he said it was still a possibility.
So there you have it. Remakes of classic titles like Metroid II are still possible. As far as the 1998 image in question, the whole thing is rather mysterious. I find it strange that the magazine editors would spend a lot of time to create an elaborate mock-up image especially if the article never mentioned Metroid anywhere. Why would they go through the trouble of doing extra work like that, unless they were trying to illustrate how Game Boy games could look after being updated? The text doesn't say anything like that, does it? ![]() |

Re: Metroid II DX?
I believe there's a color patch for this game on the main site if you really want color. I use it along with the justin bailey patch to play the game suitless, but it aint pretty. ![]() |

Re: Metroid II DX?But that involves an emulator.
Metroid II has to fit in my pocket. |
|
Re: Metroid II DX?I'd still rather have full remake/reworking than a simple colour addition.

|
Re: Metroid II DX?Well, even if this doesn't see the light of day, at least there's AM2R, which is much more than a standard colour patch for Metroid II.

Re: Metroid II DX?Yes! I would definitely welcome an updated version of Metroid II, mainly because 1) I currently have no way of playing the game outside of an emulator, and 2) Just looking back on the gameplay, and thinking about all the other games in the series (with Zero Mission replacing the original in my mind), M2's gameplay, if left as is, would feel extremely archaic compared to the other games. I'm not saying remake it with Fusion or Zero Mission-like graphics or gameplay (though I certainly wouldn't say no to that either!
), just tweak things a little to update it, like add color, maybe remaster the music, and give us the ability to shoot diagonally. |

Re: Metroid II DX?
For once I agree with you, Chris. |

Re: Metroid II DX?Yiazmat: welcome to the forum. We already have several threads on AM2R (or posts where people have mentioned it). Here's one, for example.
The point is, when new Metroid information comes out, this forum usually hears about it first. |

Re: Metroid II DX?I hope you guys are all aware of this IPS patch, which has been around for a good while (yet is strangely not talked about that much):
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/175/ It may be fan-made, but it is a full-color version of Metroid 2. Doesn't run on VBA-M but does run on VBA1.8. Just use your IPS patcher and apply it to a Metroid 2 rom and there you have it, Metroid 2 DX. ... Aaaand as soon as I post that, I see the thread just below this one (well, just above, now) which has a newer version than this. Should probably get that one instead. Just sayin'. |
