Re: Alien: Infestation. Metroidvania in the Aliens universe!Bought the game, It's fun and all but very short. Like, I finished it in two afternnons of casual playing. There are five bosses so that's probably the best way to gauge how far you are. The good news is that once you've unlcoked a marines bio it stays with you even after you delete your only save file and start over.
By the way, a list of various review scores is here. Everyone dies. It is the final and only lasting Justice - Boba Fett

Re: Alien: Infestation. Metroidvania in the Aliens universe!Really fun game, Aliens and Metroid go together like peanut butter and jelly for obvious reasons.
It was really criminally short though, but there's a lot of replay value in seeing how the story plays out with the 19 different marines. Using different marines as a "lives" system and giving them unique characters with backstories to make you care about them was ingenious. The beginning of the game was really tense though it sort of tapers off once you get used to the controls and the enemy spawns. It would've been much better if they had made the alien spawns random and made your motion detector less accurate. The game uses the license brilliantly though, they really did a good job with the details. The layout of the USS Sulaco is logical and well done. Someone said about the lock and key mechanic earlier and yeah, one of the places where they dropped the ball was giving you items that just serve as glorified keys instead of giving you new abilities that also allow you to reach previously inaccessible places. The only exception to this is the flamethrower really. It's going to be disappointingly easy for Metroid veterans but it's still a lot of fun, I've gone through it several times already. Maybe not worth 30 bucks but worth playing. |

Re: Alien: Infestation. Metroidvania in the Aliens universe!Aye, despite the initial discomfort ive got used to it now, I'm purposefully taking it really slow after getting to 50% completion in 3 sittings. I would love for a much larger game perhaps on the 3DS next time. They got the gameplay almost there, just randomise the aliens and make the motion track less reliable and perhaps have a limited range, been able to spot all enemies on the map is a bit too easy.
I hope they do make another. |
