Wasn't Retro under heavy supervision from Nintendo when the first Metroid Prime was being developed? Nintendo could handle the gameplay aspects and Retro the aesthetics.
I think Melee may have gotten me somewhat interested in F-Zero after I'd pretty much forgotten about it since F-Zero X. I think the Big Blue stage did F-Zero some justice since you get a better picture about the speed and the scenery going topsy-turvy. Got me curious enough to look up videos of the GC F-Zero game and it looks pretty awesome. Too bad they didn't sell the game anymore at the time.
Sure, how the series are presented is one thing but the rest is up to the beholder. Thinking about it, the devs would do well to provide different perspectives to each series.
