It's possible to take SAX out losing very little to no health, and it's not very difficult with just a little practice. There's the method where you time charged shots to hit him every time he gets up, and between that and some careful dodging he'll go down really fast. There's also a method which involves space jumping to an upper platform, coming down and hitting him with a charged shot, and immediately space jumping back up to the platform before he has time to get back up and follow you - although that second method can be rather time consuming.

Step one - shoot charged shot
Step two - jump over SA-X
Step three - shoot charged shot
Step four - repeat step #2

Repeat these steps as needed, and the SA-X is laughable.

I actually usually hesitate giving this advice because while simple, it will suck all the challenge out of the fight. But this is literally how my FIRST ENCOUNTER with the SA-X went, so for all the grief the SA-X put me through in the game, it was a surprisingly easy fight.

I too remember that the SA-X was laughably easy. My first fight I freaked out and spammed Ice Missiles before finally shooting it with charge beam and running off. I think I died from screw attack clashes the first time. The second time I got the hang of it and took it down, but the transformation took me by surprise and killed me again. Fight #3 onward I don't even take damage usually in this fight. It's just silly compared to the brutal difficulty of many of Fusion's other bosses like Nightmare who I had to fight literally dozens of times before beating.

As far as 2D Metroid bosses go, I think once you get their patterns down, they're all pretty easy, meant to be dispatched quickly (for speed runs, of course). The only exception is Ridley in Super Metroid, who has enough health to withstand all of an average player's Super Missile stock (and normal missile stock!), and generally does not have a set pattern.

But I will submit that no bosses gave me more trouble their first time around than Fusion's bosses. It takes some trial and error, and a few runs, before you get the feel for them. Nightmare and Yakuza can't hurt me at this stage, unless I WANT to get hurt (or am playing very, very carelessly).

Of course, excepting the SA-X and Omega. They are, as they say, "easy sauce."

Of course this changes in a 1% run, but everything changes in a 1% run; e.g., Ridley-X becomes a fucking nightmare. Try doin' THAT without save-states, Metroid junkies! It'll make you tear your hair out!

Tell me about it. Going into the Mega Core-X battle, I thought it would be easy as hell. I mean, even back in 2002, when Fusion was my first and only Metroid game, I didn't have trouble beating it in my first try.

After about five tries in, it dawned on me that all those times before I never actually studied it's attack patterns, it being such a quick boss, and thus I never formulated a real strategy to beat it, as I always got hit a lot in the process of killing it. Naturally that wouldn't do in a 1% run.

When you want to get ALL upgrades and pwn SA-X,go on YouTube and look up a Let's Play on Metroid Fusion. Although even if you get ALL upgrades there is a special way to defeat SA-X.
Phazon, you can run from it,but you can't hide from it.
