Kid Icarus: Uprising Thread

Postby CapCom » 09.16.11 10:14am

I figured we should have one of these, and since there doesn't seem to be one already, here it is!

Got a chance to watch the latest trailer, and while my GDC experiences were not very promising, the trailer shows a lot of new gameplay that looks like they seriously improved (or changed or never showed this) it over the past six months. Rotation wasn't possible (or at least nobody told me it was), and there wasn't any platforming. Also, laser beams :P

I still think the character voices will be absolutely annoying (they seem decent in the Japanese one, but what would I know?).

Oh yeah, they will probably localize that name from "Black Pit" to "Dark Pit".

Why do they look like they are from the N64?

I wasn't actually interested in this game until recently, having caught the extended trailer on eShop. Now it's firmly on my buying list.

All I hope for is that Pit isn't half as chatty as the trailers make him out to be. Gawd, shut up kid.

He's just as chatty. It's supposed to be witty banter. Sometimes it's annoying.

I can't wait for this game though. It looks unbelievably fun.

Judging from what I've heard, I'll love listening to the game's conversations. Especially the ones with Twilight SparkleTara Strong playing Palutena.

Checking the game's Metacritic score, it seems that the consensus is that the game is great, but it's bogged down by a rather awkward default control scheme. Thankfully, unlike a certain Metroid game you're probably all familiar with, there are other options.

Kid Icarus: Uprising is pretty fantastic. I haven't been able to dive deep, deep, deep into it, but I've really liked most of what I've seen so far.

And yes, you can customize the hell out of the control scheme. Virtually every input is customizable.

Unfortunately, you can't customize it enough to make it work for a lefty. Not unless maybe you have dual analog sticks. Aiming with ABXY is bringing back sad memories of Hunters. Only this is a much better game.

Sadly, the Circle Pad Pro is out of stock, and you can only get it direct from Nintendo or Gamestop.

Going to try it later with the stand - maybe it'll be easier to play with the stylus.

Kid Icarus is fantastic. Its a good break from the thuper therious games I've been playing recently and I'm having a lot of fun with it. It's the epitome of what a game should be: fun.

I'm glad you mention 'not super serious'. That's exactly what this game is - fun and silly! Sora Ltd. embraced that flavor from the original quite nicely. The story is pretty silly, the enemies are ridiculous, and the constant dialogue is a nice use for the bottom screen. And the levels are each unique! I just finished level 5, which reminded me a LOT of Star Fox!

As a note: if you're a left, it's easier to play with the stand. I am used to using the analog stick to move, and it's easier using the stylus if you've got the stand handy.

Hmm... Maybe I should put in Metroid Prime Hunters and see if the stand works better for that game... NAAAW, why would I torture myself again?? :AH:

I've been playing this game nonstop since Saturday and I love every second of it, I'm on chapter 24 right now and I can't stop playing it. The story is awesome full of unexpected moments, the writing is hilarious, the gameplay is fine(i don't see what the problem with it is) and the references to other games is just for shits and giggles but it's still awesome and it even has another reference to Metroid besides the obvious one.
It happens in Chapter 21 and when fighting the metroid like enemies Pit makes a remark how they look like them and the Goddess of Nature Viridi hates hearing Metroid because of how many people state similarities despite that there are none in her eyes
Overall this game is a 9 out of 10 for me.

This game is fun. Really, a lot of fun. Definitely the killer app for the 3DS, moreso than Super Mario 3D Land.

I'm also pretty surprised with how smooth multiplayer is. Considering I find myself playing against random Japanese people most of the time I'm getting less lag and stuttering than I sometimes do with playing against people in my own country.

In short, if you have a 3DS this is worth getting; if you don't, then it's worth getting a 3DS for.
