Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniverI don't know about you guys but the makes me extremely angry. They are a bunch if jerks for not even acknowledging metroid 25th.

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniverThe link doesn't work but I guess it's about the Kirby 20th anniversary thing?
Kinda sucks that they won't acknowledge Metroid, but look at the bright side: I hear they're gonna announce a new game at E3!
in 2018.
|

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniverI would have loled, but it's probably true at this point...
And yes, it was the Kirby 20th anniversary. ![]() ![]() Do a barrel roll! |

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniverTo be fair they also did nothing for DK's 30th anniversary.

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniverThat a good point, but it doesn't cease to piss me off.
Seriously? Kirby?! I.....I can't. |

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniverI saw this last night before bed and didn't even think about that until now.

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniver
I can understand why no 30th for dk. It's not a milestone. And believe or not Kirby is more popular them metroid. But to completely ignore metroid because isn't not popular in Japan is a huge mistake on big n's part and as you know I am as upset as everyone else. I would start a petition or something but they rarely do any good. But what I do suggest every metroid fan do is write a letter to head office and describe your unhappiness and mail it to them. If enough people did this and we bombard them with letters then they would see their huge mistake and they might finally give metroid the attention it deserves. How could they ignore the leading lady of video games is beyond me. Vgm out... Super Metroid, the most perfect game ever created! Period!

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniver
It's quite clear that, in general, people just don't love Metroid as much as we do here in this community. In my eyes, Nintendo has invested quite a bit of time and effort (read: $$$) into Metroid, and it has barely given them any payback on that franchise. The most it seems to have ever gotten was on Metroid Prime. Even then, the sales of the Prime series weren't up to expectation: see Metroid Prime Trilogy. A lot of things have to do with timing, bad luck, opposition/competition, and marketing. Just on marketing alone, Nintendo seemed to drop the ball every time. Now what does that say to us about Metroid? It means on a scale of 0-10, 10 being how much they care about Mario and Zelda and Pokemon, Metroid probably falls around the 4-5 range. Just looking at the sheer amount of merchandise of other franchises compared with Metroid will tell you that. In my eyes, it's a miracle we're even getting those figma figurines. Long story short: too much effort for little long-term payback. Any company, video game or not, would tell you there's going to be very little effort made to keep something like that alive. For more conversation on this topic, see the "Why don't enough people like Metroid?" thread which is almost 50 pages long now. |

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniver
I see what you're saying, as Kirby is generally universally playable, but like you said, it doesn't cease to piss me off. And that is a good point about DK, Mario is a much bigger milestone than its progenitor (technically). |

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniverWow. This was completely unexpected
Yes, Kirby is more popular according to sales, but Metroid is considered by many to be part of their three major franchises. *Sigh* I guess if one of the games among their re-releases is Dreamland 3, I can go through the metroid level and pretend it's Samus' 25th anniversary present... but it won't be the same "Writing is easy. You just stare at a blank page until your forehead starts to bleed." - Douglas Adams

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniverFrom what I've heard, Metroid was eventually just geared towards gamers. As for Mario, my 50-something mother in law plays that game, but if you put her in front of Metroid, her head would implode. Metroid just doesn't appeal to the casual audience, and it wasn't really intended to. I agree though, it's just a cursed franchise. Most of the games in the series were very highly rated but the sales were not good. The Machinima Youtube channel explains why Metroid is "The Cursed Franchise" quite a bit.
Here's a link to the first video, I'm not entirely sure how accurate this is, but it makes sense. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oQZHHSHO9U |

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniver
It's not that accurate, unfortunately. I've discussed with others that we should do our own, MDb-styled version of these, to make up for its shortcomings. They even used our site as a resource (w/out asking or even mentioning it to any of us, of course). Hey, any publicity is good publicity, right? |
|
Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniverI would certainly like to see the MDb's take on that, for sure!

Re: It's official Metroid isn't getting any official anniver
That'd be my reasoning behind it. Dare I say that Metroid is more important to gaming? Yes. |
