One more chapter up! There's some neat things going on here, but I'll just reiterate my statements from the official news post:

There's an excellent cameo in this chapter to tie it with the Official Manga, as well as some rather surprising character development for Joey. In fact, cheekier fans might wonder whether this more character development for Joey in one chapter than for Samus in all of Metroid: Other M! Jabs aside, Samus's statements about getting scared in battle certainly take on additional meaning post-Other M, particularly when you ask yourself where you want to stick this non-canon story into the timeline. Samus is a little hard on herself to take the blame for the deaths of her parents, but the fact she admits to her fears in battle - and how she overcomes those fears - does give an interesting take on the inner workings of the Galaxy's greatest space warrior, especially considering this was written in 2003.

So yeah, this is pretty much all Idzuki Kouji, though he probably got a thumbs-up from somewhere along the way.

[spoiler]I can only assume that Joey's father's gloves must be based on similar technology to the Power Suit. Remember, the "emotional control" aspect has been around since the 1994 Super Metroid comic, even though the only game that featured it explicitly was Other M.[/spoiler]

Outside of that, I really like the tie-in. It lends a bit more credibility to S&J to know that the authors have more than a basic familiarity to the series canon. It's hard to tell when they aren't using familiar locales or characters. (Most of which don't need extra visiting, anyway.)

This is probably the most epic of all the S&J's (I've read through vol. 3 already.). Giant epic battle with penguins. Joey actually seems halfway cool by the end. It's more interesting when he does something useful rather than just getting in the way or serving as comic relief.

The next two chapters start a mini-story cycle that shifts into a bigger story arc that in turn takes us to the Metroid Extreme series. You'll be pretty surprised when we get to it - Chapter 11 is really weighty.

No real translation notes this time. Joey says "Found a $1000 plastic model" on page 111 that I changed slightly so it would make more sense, but that's really about it as far as I can remember (again, did the translation about four or five months ago and the first draft of the scanlation 3 months ago, so kinda hard to remember).

Yeah, so Metroid Extreme is hard to get because it was never bound in a collection. You have to purchase the individual issues of Comic Bom Bom. If you can find them, they are only in Japan, and usually for $30-$40 apiece. Then you have to spend another fortune on shipping. If it takes us a year to complete Vol 2 and 3, then we might have more of the issues.

Oh so it is too hard to get,volume 2 ends after chapter 11?or volume 2 ends after chapter 9 and 10 11 are vol 3?

The three collected volumes are 17 chapters total. There's a ways to go before we really start worrying about the other chapters.

Noticed something while re-reading Volume 1. Chapter 5, page 14, Joey thinks "Samus won't raise her cannon as long as there's a hostage." Mistake?

Really enjoying this manga, hopefully the issues with Volume 3 and Metroid Extreme get sorted out soon.
