NeroKarasu's "Golden" take on my 2D Torizo design. She used glow-in-the-dark paints for the belly and is working on a Zero Mission version now.

In addition, this is my official invitation to MdB-goers to check out the fully-painted Ridley (as well as the previous costumes) at the Stedman Art Gallery if anyone is in the NJ/Philly area. He'll be up until the 23rd along with photography of the costumes and some of my animation works, but Samus and the Torizo Statue will also be at the reception party on the 17th from 1-3pm. Please say "hi" if you are able to attend it!

Your Ridley looks AMAZING just saying! Can't wait to see more photos of it.
Seriously every time you just keep getting better and better- I wish I could do that much within three costumes!
As it is I've been making 5 in the last two months and I think I've just gotten worse...

I'm starting plans for a Varia Suit, after all my current plans and everything gets wrapped up.
My question is- what kind of functions would make a Varia Suit go from cool to incredible?
Already I'm going to have gas jets out the boosters on the back, lit by some blue leds, and fully automated lights and light patterns, and possibly plans in motion for an arm cannon that can move between normal and missile functions.

Oh and I've been thinking about how to make an awesome fusion suit, complete with creepy pulsating fleshlike parts.
.... And I wonder why I don't have any money!

Curious about the jet packs. How do you plan to have gas powered jets without it melting your costume?
I thought of doing the lights but fire coming out the back?

It's not fire, it's just little streams of gas haha.

Ok gas. It still produces a lot of heat.
So my initial question still stands. :-)

She could do something with steam/water vapor. It would still require heat, but not enough to melt plastic. I mean, look at most clothes irons.

This is true. I guess how I read it is that she wanted a small gas flames coming out of the jet packs.

Gas doesn't produce heat! It'll just be like a little tank full of something (I dunno, I have a friend helping with the tech stuff) like the tanks of helium that you use to fill up balloons or whatever. A tank, a valve, no heat whatsoever!

If it's a compressed gas it will do the opposite, it will be cold due to the pressure drop like when you spray deodorant, this is also how refrigerators work.

I'd say compressed CO cartridges!? Wire it to a paintball gun trigger or something. Maybe even get a NOS (Car nitrous oxide) tank, compressed with CO2 and force it out. Not sure how safe the actual gas is :P but something along those lines would probably work really well.

You could even use an enclosed orange bulb to light the gas as it exits to give it a flame feel. I like the idea for the trigger :) I keep meaning to plan an arm cannon with working triggers/buttons but alas, I'm too poor to do anything like that XD

Off from the jet pack, I was thinking for the Arm cannon, you could have a potato cannon that had two barrels for which you could switch between missile and beam by turning a turning a wheel, like a revolver. I'm not sure how well it will actually work, but it's a start. Also the barrel of the potato cannon kind of looks like the arm cannon. So it's a possibility.

I'm just going to make it from scratch I think haha. My electronics guy is working on lighting patterns and what we're gonna use for the actual lights in the cannon. Wheee~
