Prime's plot device = Phazon

Postby Vonter » 04.05.11 9:05pm

Hello to everyone;

I just wanted to share my opinion of what I think its the coolest plot device of the trilogy; the phazon itself.

Throughout the trilogy Samus got to learn about this readioactive material that turned local wildlife into monsters, that polluted the environment and even split worlds apart (Echoes). What I find so fascinating its how in a subjective way the phazon its the main enemy of Samus, its not an entity she confronts directly like an enemy, but a poison that consumes everything that sorrounds it.

It gets even more interesting when we see Samus having to use the same poison in order to erradicate the source of it (Metroid Prime).

I know Retro closed this device with prime 3 but I hope another cool plot device could be added to the series since:

The metroids are no longer the main focus.
The space pirates have greatly being destroyed and also they're not as strong force as before.
The parasite X really doesn't add anything new, they're simple the anti-metroid.

The next plot device also will have to affect personally Samus, since Phazon was putting a challenge with herself in Prime 3 and the baby metroid I hope its already a solve issue.

I do believe that was a bit apparent.

It surprises me how everyone seems to think this is the case. Why not? BSL got destroyed, but after finding out about the Bottle Ship can we really believe those were the only TWO top-secret military installations? There could be thousands of metroids out there!
The space pirates have greatly being destroyed and also they're not as strong force as before.

According to Metroid: Other M, they have been completely wiped out. This really bothered me until I realized that the end of Metroid Prime 3 essentially already did this - all Phazon infected pirates, that is, the ones outside of Zebes, have been killed.
The parasite X really doesn't add anything new, they're simple the anti-metroid.

I wouldn't mind seeing them again, though I must admit most fans share your views that they can't really offer any new developments outside of Metroid Fusion.

The Metroid vaccine is having adverse effects on her suit and her body. Bam. Maybe it's too similar to Corruption's plot twist, but I think it's where Metroid 5 needs to go.

EDIT: Alternatively, there's the whole Federation-out-to-get-her thing. That would be a very interesting plot hook.

I'm just going to copy paste part of my post from the "Future of the Series" thread. The few that read it seemed to think it was a good idea:

Sylux would work as a character because he/she/it hates the Galactic Federation. We know that at least a portion of the Federation is corrupt. Using him as not only an antagonist but as a gateway to seeing the other corruption and wrong doing that this group is capable of works very well from a narrative stand point. It also makes the narrative less black and white, and more morally grey: Who is the real villain? Is there a villain? Everyone I'm fighting against or at odds against thinks they're doing the right thing.

That would be an excellent way to tie the secret ending from Prime 3 into the greater Metroid plotline, and possibly proceed with the Metroid story forward from Fusion. I like to think that Sylux was some sort of inhumane cybernetics experiment by the Federation, so it'll be interesting to see what they would actually make him out to be.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see any MPH characters coming back. It would be cool though...

I remember reading something about how Retro is not done with the Prime series yet, but if they are to make another game it would be a Hunters game. Can't remember where I read this.

I honestly dont see them making Hunters 2 when they didnt make the first one, and a sequal to Hunters isnt "something everyone wants".
