Infinity's End wrote:Beyond Smash Bros, and maybe a funny cameo here and there, Nintendo doesn't just crossover franchises willy-nilly. This rumor is pretty damn farfetched. Shit, while they're at it, maybe they should do a Zelda- Pokemon crossover or a Pikmin-Kirby crossover or a F-Zero-Mario crossover. Nintendo is co-producing a Pokemon crossover set in 16th century Japan, so I wouldn't be entirely surprised by this rumor's validity. Still doesn't make for a good game though. Now Pokemon Warriors? That'd be awesome.

The whole rumor sounds exactly like that, just a baseless rumor. Plus the very idea of crossover between Metroid and Starfox sounds like something only a dumb teenager would think of.... I was that teenager once. So yeah, I wouldn't pay much attention to it.

I feel now after a good sleep that if this is true, it was a prototype. Retro may have been working on this game, but then split it into seperate ones. Before this, it was rumored that Retro was working on a new prime and a new Starfox game. So, if these two games are announced at E3, then I have no doubt this crossover was in the works at some point.
Kinda feel sad now. It could have been fun.

Let's assume that Retro would actually be capable of considering(read: drunk enough to consider) something like this and implements it in a way that isn't ridiculous. The story begins as you control Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team on deep space mission in your Arwing, flying through a Meteos-like stage. As you enter a light speed warp, there’s a collision with an orange ship (Samus’) and the game continues with you now plummeting to a planet as Samus in her craft. You’re in mild control of her ship, using the Wii U controller to look around and touch screen press the lit up buttons to prepare for impact (while the TV stays locked on what you see out of the cockpit). You’re now on land, as a “yet again” stripped down Samus Aran with the most basic of weapon abilities, in first person perspective, traversing through this unknown planet.
Samus' ship isn't orange any more. Bam. Debunked. I'm not even half way through the page. EDIT: Oh, the name "Fusion" has nothing to do with Metroid Fusion. Just when I thought this couldn't get any stupider. How'd this end up in a serious news article, anyway?

I don't think I really want this. I'm not THAT desperate for a new Metroid title. If I was to change my mind though, I think Retro could pull if off. Still praying that it's not real.

I love how people forget this leak is from the guy who leaked the PlayStation All Stars, and Donkey Kong Country returns. In the formers case months before it was formally announced.
But let's wait untll E3.

While Nintendo is the king of kickass crossovers, this one sounds fishy. I'll just say what I said on GoNintendo:
I can't help but feel this is just the result of one guy's weird fanfiction. The two franchises could mix, but some things said in the rumor seem...off.
1. Retro's involvement - I love the guys, but really wish people would get over them not working on Metroid anymore. I seriously doubt they want to be tied to the series forever. Plus, to be honest, I'd rather NOT go back to another Prime style game. That series was swiftly running out of ideas by the third one, mostly due to the gameplay limitations of the FPS genre.
2. The crossover doesn't even SOUND like a crossover- If you're going to do a crossover, the two titles HAVE to interact. It doesn't sound like a game where you have two characters with radically different play styles that give variety to the same environments, but just like someone stuck a Star Fox and a Metroid game on the same disc. There has to be more similarities for the two to truly work together. Like having Samus and Fox interact and see how their personalities would work together. It'd be amusing to see how the crew would interpret Samus' more introverted, quiet personality to Fox's typical heroics and Falco's smart mouth. I would like to see what the Nintendo's SPD1 could do with a Metroid that had space battles though.
A theoretical Star Fox x Metroid crossover COULD work, Nintendo having done Smash Bros and releasing the wacky Pokemon Conquest, but the way this describes it sound like a flawed concept for a game rather than an actual game in production. if they were going to do this they should have it be a unique style with the Metroid and SF casts interacting and having a unique gameplay style. Like maybe having the ground sections be like Other M or Starfox Adventures and the space battles be like Star Fox with the ability to switch between Samus and Fox. Anyway, probably a false lead, but we'll see,

Yeah, I assumed there would be more interaction than the poorly written document suggested. I mean, there's no point just forcing someone to play two different games at the same time, the way it sounded like it would play out. Can I just go ahead and point out how ridiculous a hyperspace collision is? It's one thing if it's a fleet or a large body, but one ship hitting another? In space? You've gotta be kidding me! Not to mention how the ship is fine, it just happens to crash on a planet where a Metroid story plays out. At face value, a crossover between Star Fox and Metroid sounds kinda cool. They're both Nintendo sci-fi franchises, right? And Metroid would benefit from Star Fox's space combat. But when you consider the actual universes, they're so thematically disparate that there's no way to combine them without sacrificing one's style. Metroid is dark and serious while Star Fox is intentionally corny and light-hearted. Not to mention you have to somehow explain away the anthropomorphic nature of Star Fox's cast. Oh, I just can't wait to hear that one. Maybe they're from an ALTERNATE DIMENSION! Just imagining an opening text crawl to this crossover makes me want to gag.

Serious? Ugh, now I'm even more depressed I usually never get so upset over a rumor that probably isn't true but this idea is just so ridiculous that it prompts such an emotion.

The Paul Gale Network also claimed that Rocksteady was making a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game and was quickly debunked by official sources. They don't have a perfect record.

No. Just... no.
I agree with the people who said it sounds like something a dorky teen would come up with (god only knows I've come up with worse as a teen.. like combining Metroid with Sailor Moon and Spider-Man.. wtf, teenage self?), or a joke idea that the team tossed around while drunk but never really intended to do anything with.

The thing is though Nintendo HAS done crossovers with franchises that have incredibly disparate tones. Smash Bros. takes characters from serious stuff like Metroid, Metal Gear, and Fire Emblem and makes it work alongside lighthearted or even just bizarre stuff like Mario, Pokemon, Warioware, Zelda, and Game and Watch (heck, the first character Samus teams up with is Pikachu, though Samus is secretly of cuddly critters as her track record shows). Heck, we even have Pokemon Conquest which has you playing during one of the bloodiest eras in Japanese history with Pokemon while keeping a light tone. It's more the way they described the gameplay that made me raise a brow, because you theoretically could have a lot of Nintendo franchises cross over and it feel natural.

I beg to differ. This is different from Smash Bros or the new Pokemon because (presumably) it combines the two existing universes instead of creating a new fiction by pulling existing characters out of their element. Smash Bros is not a Metroid game. This presumably would be. It's two completely different kinds of cross-over.

Paul Gale himself explained that when he revealed the sony smash clone, he was completely sure about it, and posted it about being 100% fact. He was going to post this rumor 4 hours latter, but couldnt verify the source of information so he posted it as a rumor, he is not convinced of this. As for my opinion on this, I cannot begin to digest the idea of this game.

And I'm only saying a Star Fox/Metroid crossover could work, just not the way this rumor describes it. It would work if they just had ground sections like Other M crossed with Star Fox space battles. Goofier things have happened.
