I tried going straight up from the left side of the ship using a shinespark, but there's a horizontal bar blocking the way.

The discolored wall on the ship can be shinesparked through.

Seriously, don't worry about this now though. You're in for way more trouble than it's worth (you'll get no reward for doing this).

Basically, there are so many sequence breaks in this game that just about anything is POSSIBLE, given enough skill and knowledge of the map. You aren't supposed to come anywhere close to discovering them on a first playthrough though.

After many hours of trying, i cheated and watched some youtube vids.

I looked at a screenshot map and I'm not seeing anything in particular that would prevent me from getting the xray scope. It's just a matter of hitting all four of those switches.

Does it permanently lock up or something if you ever trip any of the alarms?

Okay, so what's the way through that you learned from the YT videos, because the ones I've found are from earlier versions of the game.

I didn't even know there were more versions. I'm still using the patch from the first week of release. I'm no help, then.

I can't remember which color switch it as, but one of them gave me an awful time because I couldn't figure out how to get to it without tripping an alarm. The YT video I saw showed me a place to leave and re-enter the ship to reset it.

All this talk of version changes is really a moot point: almost nothing substantial was changed.

Except a whole heap of loopholes closed and other edits.

Not sure, but was there even a "hard mode" IPS file initially? There is now.

The hard mode is new and should be viewed as a whole different mod. Most of the major sequence breaks are closed in the hard mode.

The normal 2.2 is really not very different from the 1.6 version and such that most people have played. Basically all the original routes are still available.

Hiya there. I've been playing M: SZM for the past few days and now I'm at a part where I'm at my wits end...
I finally got to where I use the Power Bomb on the glass tube that's supposed to lead me to Chozodia. I went right first, but there's a hallway where apparently, a speed boost icon's hidden on the wall, but no matter how hard I try, I can't quite hit it with boost dash. The left path leads me back to the Pirate Ship and eventually outside it.

In short, I have no idea where to go and have tried for a couple of hours to get deep into chozodia and get my full gear (I have all 3 unknown items). Help please o.o

I'm right under the huge power bomb icon on the map you provided, right after i have to use the grapple beam to get past the water. I do know that I can use Power Bombs to get up there, but that part of it looks familiar through my first run of the pirate ship, and not sure if there's a new path where that is... is there?

You can powerbomb a ways to the right of that powerbomb icon to open a passage down into the next area. Once you're in there, look for the Shaktool (you should hear it burrowing if you're in the correct room), and follow it. Wait until it runs out of things to burrow through (it'll get stuck), then kill it and proceed through the secret passage in the wall.
*Bump due to beating it finally and wanting to comment on M: SZM*

Finally beat Metroid: Super ZeroMission recently, and I gotta say, it was very difficult throughout if you don't know what you're doing or where to go (definitely harder than the original Super Metroid to say the least). But I did love improved controls for certain skills like the following...
Screw Attack and Spring Ball
I wish they were more like how they were in Super Metroid lol. Also, the bosses were super difficult if you don't have enough missles, super missles, energy & reserve tanks, and the right beams for the job. Hardest bosses I faced were...
Mother Brain (Phantoon) & Mecha Ridley o_O
By the time I finished beating it, my completion time was 9:39 and my item rate completion was at 45%. I was finally happy when I beat this complicated but fun game. My congrats to the man who made the hack, and I only have one request which I don't know if a lot of people are asking for it lol...
Maybe there should be a Justin Bailey/Zero Suit Samus version of Super ZeroMission if there isn't already. I would definitely play through it again immediately if that were to come to pass :D
In short, great game, and looking forward to more in the future ^_^

By chance did you pick up the x-ray visor? I'm stuck trying to figure out how to enter the ship from places that won't set off the alarm.

I have tried a couple of times to get it myself, but it got too hard and tedious for me lol, so I gave up searching for it at some point. Fraid I can't help you there, sorry D:

Update: I do remember one thing though. At the entrance to the Pirate Ship (from Crateria), the one with the security camera above the door, there is a place at the very bottom part of the wall that can be bombed and entered through without alerting any of the Space Pirates. That's how I got to the blue switch though. As for the rest, you got me.
