Actually no, I don't have the Wii VC version, nor do I see the logic in paying for something I already own. I based the sound quality off line-in recordings from my NES. Basically, audio is the hardest thing to emulate, especially if you're taking an analog sound like the NES sound chip and converting it to digital.

I'm surprised that the GBA is second-best, even. I would've thought the soundchip of the GBA would have had a harder time of the triangle and pulse waves, and would have to sample those. Or something. It sounded a little off to me, at least.

From what I understand, the GBA is just a GB soundchip (which is 1 pulse, 2 squares, and a white noise channel), plus 2 sampling channels. But I might be wrong. You can notice it if you listen to the Mega Man and Bass GBA soundtracks, how it still sounds a lot like it's coming from a GB.

This might be worth posting on the MDb headline page. I recently received an email update on the American Art Museum's exhibit on 'The Art of Video Games'. They had the opening-ceremony already and took/posted tons of photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/americanartmuseum/

Anyway... I spotted Samus.

things team ninja learned from Other M:

1) let the player skip cutscenes
2) absolutely nothing else

it's actually kinda funny how many of the same mistakes are in both games

As laughable as that ign review was, it really is a bummer that the game turned out to be so disappointing from so many review sources. Of course, I still need to try it out myself to get my own opinion but from looking at the videos I'm not too excited.

Yeah, seriously, its almost scary. I saw in one video that Ryu has this over-the-shoulder sneaking thing like Samus did in Other M. Admittingly, it looks like it works better in this game but still...

I too am starting to question Team Ninja's involvement with Metroid now. The departure of Itagaki and his indoor sunglasses really does show. Dammit, that really sucks :( . I was looking forward to this game too.

Well, at least DOA5 is shaping up to be better...I hope.

its weird that doa5 is going to be good for the same reason ng3 was awful.

ninja gaiden fans: oh shit itagaki's gone!
dead or alive fans: finally itagaki's gone!

I... kinda expected more for April 1st. Though
While there are instances when Samus can avoid repeat skirmishes with the Federation AI, most Navigation Booth encounters are forced and extremely pervasive. The best way to thwart the AI's data overload is to repeatedly press and hold the A or B buttons.
was pretty funny. :D

Interesting choice for a headline. I'd say The Gaming Brit is more of a layman's Plinkett than Yahtzee, though. If that video is anything like his others that then I'd say this guy watches a lot of Plinkett reviews.

Yeah I can see comparisons to Plinkett as well, but I don't know if Plinkett is as famous. He's kinda like a mixture of both. Plinkett is a billion X more funny than Yahtzee. IMO.

Thanks for posting those videos. I just watched the second one, and I also agree with most of his points.

But it brings up once again what I've been saying for a long time now: While Other M might not have been a great game, it certainly wasn't a bad one. Far worse games have been made, but this one just had the issue of being in a series that - with the exception of two spinoff titles - had been comprised of nothing but top-notch titles.

And that's why comparing it to the Prime games is borderline silly: The Prime Trilogy is a masterpiece. It's simply one of the best examples of a brilliantly executed videogame trilogy or series in general. Honestly, we'd be really lucky to ever have a set of Metroid games as great and well tied-up as those three again and we should be proud that it happened in our beloved series.
