The thing is, most previous E3s had good surprises. 2009 had Other M, 2010 had Kid Icarus, even 2011 had Luigi's Mansion. This one had... A massive amount of coins. My first wave of disappointment has passed, and I can now see that Wii U's launch is looking to be pretty good. And 3DS also has a healthy dose of games coming for it fairly soon. But Nintendo just lacked one killer app, I'd say. But again, if that killer app is something for a more distant future, maybe it's for the best that they withheld it.

The Killer App might just be ZombiU... I have heard some good stuff about it and they are trying Spin off of the VERY populal DayZ mod for Arma2. If done right it could do it.... we will see. I know ACIII would be an insta buy for me though. I love the revolutionary Period and NAVAL warfare too.... yeah sign me up plz.

Wait for The Dead Linger (my game)... it'll be the one that *cough* survives the longest. ;)

Uh, objectively speaking, NSMBU is going to take the "killer app" slot. It'd be kinda hard not to considering its predecessor was one of the Wii's best-selling titles of all time.

The are? Count me in, then!

And there's also Rayman Legends. By god, does that look amazing. LEGO City Undercover also looks surprisingly good. And it's also really interesting how Nintendo is working with the developers of Batman and Ninja Gaiden to make sure the Wii U versions of the games have something new to present and become the definitive ones. From what I've heard, Nintendo knows Ninja Gaiden 3 was an absolute failure and they're working with Team Ninja to fix what people complained the most about it.

Is it coming out on Wii U? :P

In terms of sales numbers, probably. The DS and Wii games sold about 25 million copies each, but a very large install base for each system was already there when those came out. I feel like it just adds up to the enormous pile of reasons to kinda want a Wii U. They're still lacking that one thing that makes people go "oh, now I really need to buy this thing."

Still can't get over the ridiculous name, looks like a typo. What do you mean by spin off DayZ though? They look like two very different games, though I've still not installed DayZ and obviously not played ZombiU.

I really hope that all the rumors from before that Retro were working on X franchise and such don't turn out that they were actually working on Nintendoland, that would be such a huge waste.

Nah, that's being made by the same folks from Wii Sports. Reggie said Retro is working on something, and we're not going to know what it is very soon.

3DS press conference was kind of underwhelming. No Metroid or any other new games announced. Aside from a handful of titles, it looks mostly like shovelware.

Castlevania looks good, though it's continuing the complete reboot of the series. Trevor Belmont in a 2.5D castle that appears to be something like either SotN freeroaming or Dracula X with level select and God of War/DMC-style action (something that's never been done in sidescrolling before). That could be a promising reboot. The video seems to look much better on small screen, but they don't have a 3D trailer for it on 3DS.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 could be pretty fun, but with all that gold there, there REALLY should be Wario somewhere in it.

Luigi's Mansion also looked cool, and I can't wait to play that. It looked pretty far along last year, so it should be pretty well-polished at this point.

Not interested in Super Paper Mario.

And there's a new Pokemon Black/White, which will undoubtedly sell.

Epic Mickey goes back to the SNES version, which is pretty cool. The game ran SLOW though. Never seen a platformer run this slow. Even Donkey Kong Country 3 was faster.

Thing is, Nintendo doesn't seem to have a clue anymore when it comes to portable gaming. They're starting to move towards the modern era by offering downloads of full games through the store as well as purchase at Gamestop, but considering how well the App Store is doing for Apple, and how Nintendo can boast only three titles that sold more than a million copies (and were also boasting that the average user buys 4 games)... Yeah, Apple is like 'dude, Angry Birds sold that in like 20 minutes.' Unless they can get some games that make the system worth buying and the store worth using, they're going to have a really tough sell. Aside from maybe Kid Icarus, I don't think there's any game out there that you gotta have the system for. (Hopefully Castlevania and Luigi's Mansion will be just as awesome...)

Welp, time to upgrade my PC whenever I can.

Even though Castlevania and probably Super smash bros will be in it, I'm waiting for something more solid to come in here (and no, Kid Icarus doesn't interest me.), like a new Metroid.

I think I remember reading about the Apple CEO saying they're distinctly NOT trying to be a competitor into the traditional gaming market. But they sure as hell have a complete takeover of the mobile one. With an insane amount of really good titles on iPhone or iPad, and more being in development every day, the 3DS just can't compete.

So the 3DS has a webbrowser, so what? Use Safari on the iPad for 5 minutes and go back to the 3DS webbrowser and tell me which one you enjoyed using more. The iPad is leaps and bounds better than the 3DS in every way. I'd never recommend a 3DS to anyone - only if they were truly concerned about portability (you can't put your iPad in your pocket) and/or were a hardcore Nintendo fan. All the other features the 3DS offers is just icing.

So far I think the games I'm most excited for at E3 are: Dishonored, Assassin's Creed 3, Pikmin 3, Planetside 2, and Watch Dogs. Most of the other stuff ranges from "completely uninterested" to "not sure yet"

Well, this would explain why the Nintendo's conference ended so blandly. If this is true, it shows that Nintendo will listen to their 3rd party companies rather than just saying to show the game anyway.

That's forgivable then. Wish Nintendo would comment on it, on the record. Wish they could have shown even just a little bit, just a tease. It might've made everything better.

Retro's been working on that thing forever, you'd think they'd have something to show for it by now. Hell, is a simple announcement too much to ask? Additionally, they aren't a third party, they're owned by Nintendo, so that'd make them, what, second party? Or do we just consider them first party? Regardless, Retro? Give us some goddamned information already!

With regards to Apple vs. Nintendo: Say what they may but of course they're competing with one another. So too are Sony and Android, by sheer virtue of their very existence. Nintendo may not see Apple/Android as a direct competitor, it wouldn't be the first time they've underestimated their competition, but the fact is mobile gaming is rapidly catching up to, if not already surpassing, the quality level of handheld gaming and it's only a matter of time, and a short one at that, before the two markets are one in the same, at which point if Nintendo can't better diversify their system, like what Sony at least intends to do with the Vita, they'll find themselves shit out of luck. The 3DS can play games, great, but it doesn't excel at much of anything else, at least not yet, if ever. I can get my iPhone to do just about anything including gaming. I seriously doubt that when the time comes, Nintendo'll be able to handle the transition, at which point it'd likely benefit them to dropout of the handheld hardware market and just straight up focus on mobile game development. They're NOT going to unseat Apple as the mobile king, may as well capitalize off of the platform, like everyone else. Personally, I could live without needing 3~4 different devices just to game on the go.

Retro Studios is considered first party.

Retro Studios can take as much time as they want. I'm not rushing Valve to release the next Half Life. Creative companies like Retro and Valve should take all the time they want.

Unless we want them to be like certain companies and pump out another Call of Duty, nearly, if not, every year.

Guess what, it's freaking MARIO, people buy systems in scads just for him. This is not complicated to figure out. Same thing with NSMB2 for the 3DS; it'll sell like hotcakes just like how Mario Kart 7 and 3D Land did last year, probably even better. Most other stuff is small talk compared to that.
