Hi,It's me R7038 XX.To celebrate a most forgotten game.I decided to make this.


The earthbound thread...,Earthbound..one of the craziest SNES games at the time...Please say your comments and opinions please....Anything from our hero,Ness,to our loved aliens the Mr.Saturns.Don't forget our famous pile of crap,Master Belch.

Unfortunately I haven't had the great honor of playing the Mother series yet.
When I do I'll be sure to post in this topic.

The only things I know about the games is from Smash Brothers Melee/Brawl... sorry.

That's perfectly fine,Balkoth.And,mother is a game thats pretty much like earthbound but takes place in the 80's,It is the prequel called EarthBound Zero on an emulator,Giygas is Gyiyg(or Giegue in the emulator version),Ness is Ken,(or ninten)Paula is Ana,(ana spelled english in emulator)Jeff is Loid,(Lloyd)and Poo(Gross!)Is Jack,(Teddy)In japanese EarthBound is called Mother 2,and that's why(if you got to fourside cafe)the one girl says''You kids shouldn't drink protein drinks.''they were ''adult drinks'' in Japanese.Mother 3 is the sequel,featuring.....LUCAS!

What sucks is that Nintendo won't even release those games in the US anymore because of "legal issues". God forbid the inventor of baseball bats and cheeseburgers decides to sue Nintendo over the use of their intellectual properties in Earthbound.

I was kind of venting there. I'm not exactly certain what toes are being stepped on because of this. The Beatles?

In Dungeon man, It plays "Sargent pepper's lonely hearts club" (probably bad spelling)

There was an article/feature on gamesradar.com I read a long time ago where it pointed out the numerous copyright violations (or I suppose you can say generously "homages") the Mother series has made over the years in regards to several things - the one that stuck out in my mind the most is them using lock-stock-and-barrel the theme-tune to The Little Rascals in Mother 3.

So, there is a great deal of legal tape wrapped around the series that would be a nightmare in America, as opposed to Japan.

Doesn't make it any less of a crying shame.

As a total EarthBound fanatic, I know that there are tons of legal issues in the game.

For example, there's an enemy based on the art of Salvador Dali, so that would naturally cause some trouble. Not only that, but the soundtrack has problems, too. The naming screen music actually uses a direct sample from Monty Python's Flying Circus! (I'm not kidding! Pay close attention to its background noise at the beginning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PgR6UInmNM)

These, among numerous other things that would take ages to list (such as direct references to the Beatles), make the game a legal minefield where the risk far outweighs the reward. It's a shame, too, since the game is such a classic and continues to be one of my favorites.

Not much of an Earthbound fan, but its always a damn shame when I game a lot of people want can't get over to the States because of legal issues.

Best bet would be just wait for a translation Project to really get things going.

If its such a big deal why doesn't Nintendo just modify the game? They edited the hell out of Ocarina of Time.
