I'm making a Metroid Prime iPhone sound theme

Postby Svartluder » 06.20.12 12:56pm

Moved the thread here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5706

Yes. I got the idea of adding the sounds from Prime to the iPhone. This also includes recording and editing the sounds from the game myself since they are not that easy to find online. I have come quite far with the recording by now and will upload the files here on MDB for any on to use any time I have a "complete" set of sounds, this being said I do have a lot more sounds then currently uploaded. The sets completed so far can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5706

So, why am I saying this when it's not done yet? Well. It is functional this far and I am currently using it as it sits but I need some advice on what effects to use for some sounds. I also haven't played through Corruption, thus not knowing if there are any perfect matches from that game.

The current state is as follows:

Replaced Sounds:

Docking the phone:
Save - Done. I Replaced the full save station sound because it was too laud and too long.

Take picture:
Recording to logbook

Start recording (Video and sound):
Scanning - Initiate (Short)

Stop recording (Video and sound):
Recording to logbook

Receiving text message (open conversation):
HUD -Text (The sound when the game types text) -Will replace this with the text from Prime 3, it is more subtle.

Sending text message (open conversation):
Elevator - Start (Sounds like a heavy version of the original one)

Unlock:
Map - Open (The sound when opening the map screen.)

Lock:
Map - Close (just fits so well but I haven't decided on this one either, maybe the doors closing?)

Numeric buttons:
- (I believe that there were some Prime 3 sounds that would work great for this, however I have no Wii and haven't played it through)

Calling sound:
HUD - Transmission (Point of interest)

User busy:
HUD - Transmission (Current Location)

Low Battery:
Energy Low -This one needs to be replaced, it's a fun idea but horrible to listen too when it actually happens.

Added "Ringtones": (I decided to add these sounds as ringtones instead of replacing original sounds since they would get stupidly non-logical names and they can be changed inside the phone to represent certain events)

SMS received:
Data received -I need to rip this from Prime 3 since I can't get a clean one (a subtle beep in the background) from Prime 1.

New email:
Data Received (?)

Alarm:
Energy Low

I will upload a testable version shortly and any opinions are appreciated.

I love what you are doing but here are my thoughts.

Unlock: Unlocking Puzzle jingle

Lock: Piston Hall door slam sound-effect
(To me personally, it sounds more interesting than the typical standard blue door closing.)

Others:
'Galactic Federation Greeting' (opening menu tune or something)
'Ping' (Sounds cool but I misplaced the location of where the sound is located in the Prime games)

I've attached the sound-effects listed above, as well as a few others like that keyboard typing effect you wanted.

ChozoBoy: Great! I have been a little slow with this but I'm going to pick it up and make it available for download shortly.

Varia: Interesting thoughts, however the "piston" sound is far too long, even if I were to cut out the background noise and shorten it. The unlock sound has to be very short and clear, otherwise it sounds delayed. I'm currently using the map screen sounds for this and they actually do the job really well. The jingle, however could be useful for something like receiving a facebook message or a mail maybe?

I am going to include a simple readme on how to add or change sounds in this as well, it's pretty much just a matter of renaming files.

And also, I appreciate any help in recording sounds that I miss, don't think of or haven't gotten to. But unfortunately, they need to be decently free of noise and clippings, artifacts and early cuts. If a sound has some noise that could not be prevented, the best way to get rid of it is to include a few seconds of noise in the file. That way I can sample the noise and filter it out.

I think I will merge this thread and the sound effects thread into one thread under "Fan Creations". This way I'll have the sounds from all 3 games under a single category.
