Hi guys! Today I am bored so I thought I might post something about Metroid Dread. That's right! That game everyone has been talking about since 2005! Now first off, Metroid Dread was announced at E3 2005 as a DS game. It later was said that it was never in developement by Nintendo of America. Of course, you should not believe them because they always do stuff like that. But this story seems familiar... Oh yeah! This is like the case with Metroid 64! Except, well, this probably won't be canceled due to this not being in 3D and on the N64. Even if this is 3D, Nintendo has expirience with 3D gaming and Nintendo already made a 3D Metroid game for the DS. What do you guys think? Please leave a reply! http://kotaku.com/5277377/nintendo-new- ... roid-dread
Take this, Ridley! Wait... Did I forget the plasma beam?

Joking: They made Metroid Dread. They just renamed it to Other M.
Serious: I'm sure it's out there somewhere. I hope it's a sequel to Fusion and is a 2D or 2.5D game similar in style to Zero Mission or Super Metroid.
I'll settle for a 3D third person game as long as its better than Other M in both voice acting and writing. Oh, and controls.

If Metroid Dread was ever presented at E3, I'd like to see this for myself. Otherwise, I'll never understand why people keep acting as if it ever existed, and it wasn't just something written on Game Informer without Nintendo ever showing that Metroid Dread was real.

It was formally announced at one point. Not sure when or where.
Retro Studios referenced it in Corruption.
Sakamoto mentioned its development in the Other M edition of Nintendo Power.

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/12/metroid-dread-concept-is-something-sakamoto-cant-say-never-exi/Joystiq: Speaking of the core Metroid development team that last worked on the GBA, there have been rumors of a game known as 'Metroid Dread' – purportedly a 2D Metroid game for DS. First question: Was 'Dread' a real project? Second question: If not, where is a 2D Metroid on DS?
Yoshio Sakamoto: It seems we get a lot of questions about Metroid Dread, especially at interviews following E3 for example. But nothing's ever been announced about this game; it's all just been rumors so far. So we never know exactly how to respond to questions like this.
While there actually was a point where some teams were meeting to discuss if it was possible to create a 2D Metroid for DS using a relatively small team size, it's not something that we ever really announced or thought of as "Metroid Dread." But whenever people bring out that idea, we recognize that the basic concept is something that we can't say never existed. But at the same time, we can't of course, make any official comment about a Metroid Dread-like project coming out.
Our main goal [with Metroid: Other M] is to, as I said earlier, first raise knowledge about the Metroid universe and the Samus character before we start to introduce different elements like online or even going back to another handheld game for the next in the series. So there's nothing coming immediately, we want to think about these new challenges first.
But, of course, we never say never.
Suckers.

You ever wonder if Nintendo wishes they made this game instead? It's crazy that there was no 'real' Metroid game on the DS. It was a huge missed opportunity.

There's no reason to think it was ever being worked on, then. HYRUL3 wrote:Retro Studios referenced it in Corruption.
This has already been disproved. I don't know why anyone would mention this. HYRUL3 wrote:Sakamoto mentioned its development in the Other M edition of Nintendo Power.
Are you sure he isn't just using the name because he is aware of people talking about "Metroid Dread"? It's like calling the Wii U, "Wii 2" before the name was actually given. People would just refer to it as "Wii 2", just like how people are referring to Microsoft's next gen console, "X-Box 720".

Interesting... I knew I found something like that while on Google and it said something like "We don't know how far Metroid Dread is in developement but we will check it after we are finished with Other M." and as you can see I can not remember much from it.

Mike Wikan said on chat during the charity marathon Shinesparkers put on that the Dread reference in Prime 3 was a joke.
The real question is why Metroid Dread was put on the list of games to show at E3 that year.

I have my suspicions that Metroid Dread applies to Metroid: Other M. It makes sense.
