Moving all of this from my last post on TheGamingBrit's videos thread, because, well, these aren't TheGamingBrit's videos, and those are a bit different. This rant/analysis is construct like an essay (5 parts) and discuss this game both on video game scales and movie scales. I likes this one because the author knows what he is talking about, and knows what was subjective and objective. Also, he does this in a neutral tone and doesn't come up as aggressive/humorous as TheGamingBrit's ones.

Thanks for this, Alphonse. 1.) I still have yet to watch them all, but I will eventually. 2.) I will probably make a headline about these. 3.) It frustrates me, almost to the point of tears, that people who make these do not contact us, or make requests to us to promote their work on our site. It's clear the guy put a LOT of effort into these videos, yet they are receiving a painstakingly small amount of views. If you want to make comprehensive videos like this, and post them on YT, don't you think you would want them to be viewed by the largest audience possible? It just doesn't make any sense to me. The dude HAS to know we exist... right? Maybe he doesn't respect us because some of us *gasp* actually enjoyed the game?

I don't think it's because some of us here enjoyed the game. On the final part, EclipseStudio had a debate on the comment section with someone who enjoyed the game. It's just a guy who seems to have just started on the domain. I think contacting him and showcasing his videos on MdB would do the trick.

Definitely one of the better, less biased analysis. Even those who enjoyed the game may still find this video interesting to watch, and not as overly offensive as the one's that just bash and make fun of the game without mercy (Except for maybe the game's voice acting, he completely bashed that without any mercy ).

All analysis is biased.
It's just that we tend to agree more with the analysis when the bias leans more our way.
I think the videos are pretty good; I particularly like the examination of the game's graphics. This is probably the most boring looking Metroid game since Metroid 2; it has little of Fusion's psychedelic flair, none of the Prime's over-detailed environments, and none of Zero Mission's comic-booky goodness.
I did think the voice-acting section got boring; he really didn't need that many clips, and I kept waiting for the clips to stop.Infinity's End wrote:The dude HAS to know we exist... right? I don't know, man. We've got a review on the site wherein you call reviewers cry babies and then cap it off by threatening violence against haters, a podcast where everyone is fairly dismissive of the criticism of the game, and a pinned topic wherein users are encouraged to report posts they feel are too critical of Other M. If I were on the outside looking to promote a critical video of Other M and I remembered this stuff as the representative attitude of MDb I would definitely not consider contacting the site.

Well, of course, I guess I should have worded it differently. He tries to back up his biased, opinionated viewpoints more articulately and "objectively" then most from what I've seen, and relies less on insults or the like. rondus18 wrote:I don't know, man. This is a good point. Also, I didn't know Metroid-database existed until like what...two years ago? Maybe not even.

Unless he completely ignored the translation watermark at the bottom of all of those Other M concept art images he used on one of the videos, he definitely knows we're here.

I usually disdain YouTube fanboy rants, but this was a mostly well-done analysis with tons of valid comparisons. I, too, was hoping for a character-driven third-person Metroid game with much better execution than was offered.

I just do not know wow I feel about his game any more? I was thinking of replaying it but I am so bummed out about the mess, I'm not sure if I want to revisit it. It just makes me sad. I really agree about the wasted potential, and there are things I honestly do like about the game still, even if there is not much. I would feel horrible if I started to hate the game, I don't think it deserves hate? I could play another first person "Prime" style game or another old style one. Honestly though, there is no reason we can't have a really good 3rd person, 3d environment game, with all of the elements from prime, and the ideas from MOM (but done better/right) in with a tight story along the way.

You should replay it just to confirm for yourself. Even with the game's faults it can still be be enjoyable. Especially if said faults that everyone argue's over isn't a game breaker to you.

It's the internet, I wouldn't get so worked up about it, people will always obtain material either without knowing the source or not citing it. I've not watched all the videos but watched up to the Gameplay Video. Some perfectly valid points are made throughout but I don't know, he could have perhaps put them across in a way that doesn't make himself sound like a douche, it comes across as an attack on M:OM rather than an analysis which I'm sure wasn't his intention. Quite a few problems he has that I don't are down to me suspending disbelieve during certain sections of the game like the death run, sure if you think about it, it makes zero sense but don't think about it and just see it as a challenge then it's not so bad.

He emailed me after I contacted him, so it's fine. I'm not "worked up" about it.

It's not like Team Ninja doesn't know how to design interesting environments, just look at Ninja Gaiden 2: I understand that the Wii hardware can only go so far but it's still capable of more than generic areas connected by metal hallways.

Instead of having environments like in those screenshots, Team Ninja was unable to do the same thing for Other M?
Lame!
