Re: EclipseStudio's analysisMaybe it's like Jessica Martin's voice acting; could have been better, but Sakamoto had a vision to adhere to.

Re: EclipseStudio's analysisNow that I've replayed Other M a couple of times, I agree wholeheartedly that the story was just SO clunky. The gameplay was still quite enjoyable to me, and I still think it's a pretty good game, but they really could have done better. Now that I think of it, I'm replaying Prime 1 and looking at the graphics (this is the trilogy version, and they were pretty damn good in the GC version), there really is no excuse for why Other M had such dull, generic environments. I mean, the biosphere looked pretty cool, but compare it to Tallon Overworld, and it just looks like a 64-bit Green Brinstar. Same with the Cryosphere in MOM versus Phendrana Drifts in MP. Someone on here mentioned MOM's whole environment looking like a manufactured video game environment. I could not agree more. Tallon IV and Aether both seemed like they could be real places. Same goes for the places in MP3. The Bottle Ship looked like a glorified Super Metroid platforming environment. Makes me wonder how the scientists got around. Maybe they had jet packs?

Re: EclipseStudio's analysisWith all the Super Metroid recycling, I'm surprised it wasn't a Super Metroid 3D Remake.
That would still be terrible, but at least it won't fuck up with the timeline. |

Re: EclipseStudio's analysisMaybe they should have just done a Super Metroid remake.

Re: EclipseStudio's analysis
Plant level, Lava level, Ice level. That's a real lousy creative vision. Even New Super Mario Bros. is more artistic than that, and that game's intentionally bland. |

Re: EclipseStudio's analysisMaybe they should have done something new with the environment instead of just reusing a previous Metroid game (Because Other M is obviously Fusion 2.0).
Don't insult Super Metroid's art design; Other M's Biosphere didn't even come close to the dark rooms filled with fireflies or the alien tunnels lined with thorns and Samus-eating flowers. Suckers.

Re: EclipseStudio's analysisMany people say that Other M was based off of good ideas, but I believe the fact that it was a copy-pasta of Fusion doomed the game from the start, and any creativity the game could of had.
To be fair, Prime was pretty much the exact same thing, which probably explains why I feel they were the least memorable, though much more tolerable because of the art direction. "Cut! There are no second chances for actors that fall to the abyss. Await your second casting in the darkness forever." - The Night of Wallachia

Re: EclipseStudio's analysis
Maybe they should have stuck with abstract level design. Other M's setting would have been perfect for this: it's a spaceship filled with VR training rooms. Forget trying to make it look like a believable setting, just come up with as many cool layouts as possible. Last edited by okey on 07.03.12 6:38pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: EclipseStudio's analysis
Whoa, didn't mean to make it sound that way. I agree that SM's environment was highly fascinating. It's a 16 bit game with fantastic graphics. I guess what I meant to say is with the Wii's capabilities versus the SNES's, MOM wasn't any more impressive than a 16 bit game. Probably less. Besides, I was mainly comparing MOM to Prime. I will say again: Super Metroid's art design was amazing!!!!! |
