[FanGame] Metroid Remix

Postby Daya » 06.29.12 3:48pm

I'm surprised there isn't a single thread about this, since the site has a banner about it.

About the project:
Metroid Remix was first concieved in 2008 by Kuro-chan, under the idea of taking a shot at enhancing a current video game. While there were other candidates under consideration, Metroid 1 won given Kuro-chan's interest in that series.

The first attempt to develop Metroid Remix was in 2009, but did not gain much traction due to issues with engine development. It was abandoned in late 2009, though many of the graphics and work were saved in the event they could be put to use later. That came true on the first day of 2011 when Emperor and Kuro agreed to resume and restart development, and have been working on Remix since. Since then, the team has recruited many game testers, concept advisors and even a website instruction manual developer.

So it's basically a retake on the first metroid while ignoring all the other games (especially zero mission), but still having items like spider-ball, grapple beam and plasma beam.

Oh, and good luck trying to control it. You can't change the control, despite what the download page says, even Joy2key can't do the job.

If you have a way to play it without the awful default control scheme, just let me know, because it looks awesome.

We posted about it on our facebook page, but have not created a headline on it. I contacted the devs and now we are affiliating with them directly. As updates are made we will promote it more heavily. It's likely we will host a version of the finished copy as well.

This is just plain incorrect. I can change the control scheme just fine. I also can map the keys to my controller. Joy2Key also works, but the game itself has its own joypad mapping system so you can just use that instead. I have absolutely no idea what your problem with it is. I do agree though that trying to play with a keyboard is just abysmal.

Huh. Now joy2key works. I might have done something wrong.

Time to play it at last.

EDIT: I played for about 5 minutes, and I have to say that I hate the controls. Especially when you try to properly aim down without crouching while holding the aim button.

And I also loved in zero mission, while you crouched down, Samus put her canon down a bit. Here, she doesn't, and hitting enemies is more problematic while crouching.

And not having the ability to walljump is annoying too. Maybe it is as an item, like in super metroid redesign?

I hope they get fixed in the final release.

Not sure, but I'm guessing they're not going to add in Wall Jump. The level design is much more like the original game and all Wall Jumping does is break the game. They nerfed the bomb jump too - it's impossible to IBJ because you can only lay 3 at a time before it stops letting you lay more bombs. Again - things that lead to sequence breaking.

Fine, then. But I just can get over how Samus moves, the aim problem and shooting too high while crouching.

From Emperor:

some people have been running into this with 64 bit machines. Try running it in compatibility mode for Windows XP and tell me if that helps.

It doesn't help. That's the first thing I tried. Thanks for the reply though.
