Fusion did have a pretty great story and those SA-X segments scared the hell out of me as a kid. My main problem with Fusion is that once you get to a certain point near the end, it doesn't let you explore anymore and just makes you finish the game. Plus, I didn't like being told where to go and not being able to turn that feature off like in Prime 1 and 2.

The exploration part is a bit annoying once you play the game the first time, but it's possible to keep exploring after you beat the game (despite not being able to reach your ship at that part.) And I actually don't have as big a problem with linearity (as long as it's not too restrictive) because in my opinion Metroid simply can't be completely open world or else you will never beat the game. Some restriction has to be made, but maybe the biggest difference between me and many other Metroid fans is that I tend to feel comfortable with linear metroid games (without it being like other m linear or M2 linear.)

I know, but I really didn't like having to beat the game before I could 100%. You do have a point, linearity isn't necessarily a bad thing. I wouldn't have minded being directed so much in Fusion if they didn't lock doors in areas you'd want to explore.

There actually is a way to get 100% in fusion without beating the game. The annoying part though is you have to be aware of where navigation rooms are and avoid them at all costs. I've done it before, it's possible. There are hidden tunnels that let you move between sectors without going to the main elevator, and you can access all of them once the screw attack is in the player's possession. There's a map of the game on Metroid Recon, the hidden passageways are displayed on the map.

Getting back to Super Metroid, the baby Metroid giving its life for Samus is the greatest moment in all of video gaming. <3

Super Metroid is quite a masterpiece. Everything about it is amazing: the music, gameplay, atmosphere, art style, and the ending. I don't think I've ever played a game that ended as well and Super Metroid.

Super Metroid has no dialogue and made me feel emotion during the Super Metroid's sacrifice scene.

I didn't feel a thing during Other M's dialogue flooded crap-scenes.

It is one of those incredible experiences that show that videogames can be art.

As has been said, it looks like Super Metroid is taking this poll to the finish line. As far as ranking the games, I would put the three originals above both Fusion and Zero Mission based only on the fact that the creators of the games were able to do what they did with the system limitations of the Nintendo, Gameboy, and Super Nintendo. While I think that Fusion is a fun game and a good one to boot (I haven't played Zero Mission, but I am on my own mission to buy it), these two games have two decades of experience and all the spit and polish of the GBA to work with. Despite the limitations of the earlier systems, evidenced by the clunkiness of the movements or the flaws that were apparent in each of the original three (graphics, secret worlds, and other glitches), Metroid makers were able to make HIGH quality games that are among the most memorable and most influential games in history. This is for you Super Metroid, the greatest of all the Metroids.

well if you click on the "view results" option at the poll up top, all will be revealed to you.

I may love Metroid 1, but everything that's great about Metroid 1 was magnified one hundred-fold in Super Metroid. It was during that magical time when a sequel didn't mean just "more of the same" but rather "everything you loved and bigger, better, more more more!" :kraid:

Zero Mission is up there, but compared to the brilliant pacing of the first game, something about the remake is just a bit off. There's too much filler in Zero Mission. Compare that to the bare-bones, lean-meat of Metroid (all business!).

That's not to say it isn't a fabulous game. It's truly the speed-runner's Metroid, with all the sequence-breaking and hidden areas - one of R&D1's crowning bits of game design would be the integrated world of Zero Mission. But the Crateria and Chozodia bits just drag the game a bit too much, in my opinion.

.I still need to buy myself Metroid II and round out my collection. It's the only Metroid game I don't own. That will probably slightly change as I try to sell Metroid Prime Hunters on ebay, because i really, really hate that game.
