Post Number 200,000

Postby Khyron » 08.22.15 8:32pm

As of 9:19 PM on Saturday, August 22, 2015, there are 199,433 posts on the MDb forum. Since I'm the guy who HAS to watch my car's odometer roll over to a milestone (50,000, 100,000, etc.) or even a cool sequence like 12345.6, the fact that we're creeping up on 200K is pretty cool to me. Considering how long this board has been up and running, it's unlikely that we'll see another big milestone anytime soon. So the real question is: Will a prize be awarded to whomever makes the 200,000th post? :awesome:

Where are you getting your number from? The only way I know of to track total forum post count is to click the topic header in a user's post, which is what one does to get the necessary URL to link back to that post specifically. As of this reply, I have the latest post to the board registered as #205024. If that's accurate than unfortunately we would've passed the 200k mark quite some time ago. To answer your question though: To my knowledge we haven't had anything planned for passing specific post milestones. The best we have as such would be user ranks.

Tangentially related, but while poking around I found our forums very first thread, wherein
CapCom has the privilege of the very first post somehow dating back all the way to Friday, October 20th, 2000. I'm going to assume that's an error in the phpBB dating, unless it's a holdover from the old forum. Regardless, internet time capsules are fun.

Here's something to do if you're bored for a moment: Take a topic URL, such as this thread's - [viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6821] - and at the very end of the string replace the topic number - in this case [6821] - with a random number between 1 and 6822 - the present maximum - and see what pops up.

For example:

  • 6821: This very thread.
  • 682: "Galactic Federation Xenology Entry 21235: the Krikens"
  • 68: "Super Smash Bros. Brawl: How will Samus be?"
  • 6: "The world needs Metroid 5"

  • 6000: MOM Samus in Brawl
  • 5286: TV show
  • 4147: The DS Metroid Games....
  • 3578: WTF Metroid 2
  • 2445: [Fanon] The Plan
  • 1934: Help us choose a domain name!
  • 560: Hey guys, remember Auximines?
  • 10: Stuff that needs fixin' around the MDb [ WEBSITE ]
All randomly inputed numbers from what first crossed my mind. Twice I came across a thread that no longer existed or was deleted.

Guess the number at the bottom of the forums front page (Statistics) is the one he refers to. The post # is just a sequence that continues increasing for a unique post ID. Deleted posts aren't in the statistics. As for threads/topics .. 5922 topics according to statistics, so there are about 900 topic numbers that will return a deleted thread.

200k existing posts could be reached multiple times, if posts/threads get deleted .. don't think that deserves a price.

As for "random" (not) numbers:
  • 2222 Hardest boss EVER in a video game?
  • 222 Need Testers for new UT2k4 Mods
  • 22 eXistenZ
  • 2 THE FIRST POST (Welcome/Introductory Thread!)

Yep, that's where I saw it. Today it's reading 199,444, though I guess if it's not counting deleted threads then there's no point in getting excited about it.

And I'm basically an overgrown 3rd grader; I want prizes for everything. :orb:

I will steal the glory and purposefully get the 200,000th post. >_>

We still have 554 posts to go though.
