Science Thread

As someone who studies Paleontology, the world of science is one that is most interesting to me, be it Paleontology, Biology, Astronomy, etc. Plus, the Metroid universe is one of the most science-fiction-based universes out there.

So post about science and shit.

I'll start off with two major Paleontology finds, the first being Zhenyuanlong, a dromaeosaur (raptor) dinosaur with the first preserved evidence of pennaceous feathers.

(Gonna be real nitpicky here, but the artist rendition lacks primaries, a common trope in Paleoart. The holotype specimen is beautiful, though.)

Second find is Tetrapodophis amplectus, a snake found with four limbs. Current hypothesis is that it represents the missing link between lizards and snakes.

Unfortunately the find itself is shrouded in controversy, as the specimen may have been commercially collected and illegally taken out of Brazil. Some harsh comments by the lead researcher.

This is one of those threads I never knew I wanted until it happened.

I LOVE dinosaurs. And space. We just went to the Museum of Science in Boston last weekend. I could probably live there.

Can't wait to check out those dinosaur articles. I'm heading to work but I'll check it out on breaks.

A scientific field I'm sure many of you haven't even heard of: Psycho-Neuro-Immunology. As the name suggests, this field of science studies the relationship between psychology, neurobiology and the immune system. The influence psychology has on the brain and the nervous system is clear enough as it is but now how do these things influence the immune system and possibly vise-versa? Perhaps more importantly, what implications could this have in treating illness? The following video explores that very concept:
