Metroid Manga ColorizationSo one of the projects I just started today is coloring the Metroid Manga. While I have time in between my other three manga projects, I decided I was bored and went into photoshop to do some coloring and did the below.
I plan on doing the entire series in color and releasing it ![]() "I authorize full use of the Report Button on the MDb Message Boards." |

I'm really tired right now, so I can't say a whole lot as far as compliments go, but great job, man.
Hey, Captain Falcon, does this look good to you? |

To do one page can take anywhere from 5 minutes to this one which took about 30 minutes maybe 45. It all depends on how much you want to color. All of the coloring I am doing is a simple change in hues and color balance in photoshop.
The longest part is using the lasso tool to select the area you want to color. I foresee doing a few pages every few days so its not gonna be a quick project but it will definetly be pretty when its done Its all time dependant "I authorize full use of the Report Button on the MDb Message Boards." |

Hey, that looks pretty cool! Great job! Make sure the color scheme's the same. I had one complaint about how Samus's hair etc. changed like every other page of the color manga. And yeah, that was how they did it
Have you tried playing around with the magic wand (w) tool? You can alter the tolerance settings so that it will only select areas of a particular color (0 tolerance all the way!). If you're using the scans you cleaned up, you should only need a very low setting. Make sure to set contiguous - that will select all white pixels within a black border. Anyway, that would cut your time back considerably if you're still playing with the lasso. Only use a tool like that if you have to cut out small areas the Magic Wand somehow got. The sleep of Reason produces monsters.

Why try to recolor something that's already been done, when you could start with the following chapter (Vol 3) and go from there? It doesn't make sense to me...and what would be even more impressive is if you tried to adhere to the style already started with these colorized versions.
We'll talk about font choices later... |

Whoa...that's awesome! ![]() |

I don't like they way they did there coloring. It's not vivid enough for my taste so I decided to recolor it. If there style was too my liking I would attempt to recreate it on future styles but being that I don't like the faded colors and such, I'd much rather do it my way and be happy with it CC - the magic wand tool doesn't select what I need to color that well mainly due to the grayscale. I attempted to adjust the tolerance and such and it selected a mess of stuff. Either way, the lasso tool allows me to select a specific area (like the visor) or the ship and change the color balance of just that area. So far it works rather well, though I do wish the magic wand tool was more accurate in its selection. In other news it seems my Photoshop isn't working properly...everytime I change a color balance it reverts to a greyscale even though the thing is in RGB mode. The wife and I scrounged through all the settings back we can't figure out what the hell it's doing so I gotta re-install my adobe "I authorize full use of the Report Button on the MDb Message Boards." |

Hello, I'm Quadraxis and I just joined. Good for me.
I've been reading these forums for a while now, but I finally decided to join. Whee. But to the point...I really think that this coloring is better than the original (the original is way too bland), but I think you should first concentrate on translating the manga before a big project like this. ![]()
