The only thing that you as a member would see (and all I've ever seen) are suspicious names as new members (something like a combination of numbers or letters). If you check out there profile, there are usually links to some type of site selling something.
They will normally stay dormant for a period of time, from a couple of days to a few weeks before they start making posts that link you to spam sites...ect, ect.
As a mod, I try to delete said posts before anyone "falls" for them.
Admins do the same and they also have that massive banhammer as well. They do other things to help prevent them as well, but all that stuff is above my head

I'm just disappointed no one has spammed in this thread yet... Oh the ironing would be delicious.
To avoid making another post like Jesse D just said not to do, or is about to say not to do... I will say here, the use of 'ironing' was deliberate... and delicious. It's from The Simpsons.

You mean, the irony would be delicious.
Speaking of irony... Don't post to this thread unless you need to report spam bots, guys.

Yeah, I checked it out. In view of all the spammers lately, the site-pluggers tread on touchy ground 'round these parts. This one's fine so we'll leave it alone, so let's be sure not to make this guy feel unwelcome.

Those should be (as far as I know) the Google and Yahoo indexing web crawlers.

Yeah, I think I noticed three were on last night...or whenever I was on last. But it didn't look like they were doing anything. Could be worse though...like on the other forum I'm active with we've been getting occasional porn spam bots. It's gets really annoying. It's a good thing they don't know how to use the codes either

Again, it helps us a LOT if you tell us who the poster is and where they're posting. There's like 500 threads on the forum across seven different boards. That's a lot of ground for something that hasn't been confirmed. Bear in mind there's a difference from a human user posting spam (lolcats, images, BS) and a spambot posting spam. We're looking for spambots so we can zap 'em

and let me re-iterate that GoogleBOT YahooBOT
usually anything that has a username of a search engine with [BOT] is nothing but a webcrawler/indexer. They are harmless. Please do not report these as SPAMBOTs since they aren't really posting, just crawling.
