is MTR still in development?

i`ve found thise vidoes on youtube.

looks amazing. from the reaserch i`ve gothered it seams like no one is working on this project anymore. is MTR still in development?

LOL, you're referring to Metroid Extinction. I was a spriter for the old team, and I named the game. The game fell apart about 3 years ago. I can tell you with complete certainty that it is NOT still in production.

On a brighter note, there are several other Metroid 2 related fan projects nearing completion in its wake. Check out Another Metroid 2 Remake by DoctorN64, or Metroid: SR388 by Vonrichter. The latter has a thread on this very board devoted to it.

Its still related. IE, its set on the same planet, it has several music tracks based on it, and you fight advanced metroids. That makes it related, in the same way that original and super metroid are related (which is pretty closely, imo).

??? So why were all those videos posted to YouTube? What is the point in posting up demos of a dead project?

Those videos have been up for a very long time, since before the project fell apart. Why, did a new one appear?

Well, Inf, if you did the Samus sprite animation-- Bravo. They're excellent, very fluid.

Man, those backgrounds and the level art are BEAUTIFUL! It really looks like a world with depth to it. I forgot what the word was for the layering of backgrounds and varying their speed to create depth, but it looks great!

Actually no :oops: , I did not remake the entire Samus sprite. A guy named Corey did all that. It was right before the project died -- I wanted to keep using ZM's sprite due to all my art was based off of ZM's scale and coloring conventions, and they wanted to do the custom sprite. There's a big long drama that I don't want to get into right now.

The videos that are up on YT are part of the account by one of the former programmers for the game, who goes by "WIP." IMO, he was the sole cause of the fall of the game and he was a really mean-spirited and irate person. REALLY difficult to get along with that guy.

Anyway, after Extinction fell apart, WIP got Corey to make some more art assets for him and they were going to make their own game using their lame RPGMaker engine (which is the video that megatron linked to), but it also fell apart (I know this from chats with Corey.) Some of Corey's old assets are being used in SR388 as well and he has officially given Von his blessing. I still have a broken build of the game, too... I personally don't appreciate WIP taking ownership of MTR but he's a dick and I'm so over it.

infinity@ do you want to join to my small team? ^^

btw, i know verry well rpg maker, and i can assure you that this engine wosnt build with it. for me it seams like game maker. in RPGmaker you would never get such a fluent platform movement.

I guess you haven't noticed that I'm already part of Von's SR388 team. Trust me, I have way too much other stuff to do to work on anything else.
