I knew that, but he did not word his post that way. So in that case, I decided to be a smartass about it.
Maybe people would take you more seriously if you weren’t such a smartass and didn’t try to make excuses for the game’s many, many flaws.

Yes, but that flaw is utterly fucking ridiculous.

I mean seriously, who the fuck decided

"OMG LOLOLOL!!!11! LET'S MAKE THEM FIGHT THE SAME BOSS 4 TIMES. AND YOU KNOW, THEY'RE PRETTY ANNOYING BOSSES TOO."

But I suppose you might say, "It's the Alimbics fault, they're just not very imaginative when it comes to guardians."

I just can't understand why the developers would want to repeat the bosses...

It probably had to do with time constraints, budget, or risk. Risk wise, the DS was still pretty new and they didn't really have any 3D games out with the exception of Mario 64 and a few others. They probably didn't know how well it was going to be received by fans. I was a little iffy about it when I started hearing about it.

I myself never actually finished the game only because one of the Prime games came out. I think it was Echoes? Anyhow...it was an interesting concept but I never made it far enough to really make an opinion about it so for right now I'm going to stay neutral. I was slightly disappointed to find that First Hunt Demo and the actual game were different.

I actually liked the game, but I will agree with you guys on some of the points. Scans sucked. Time for escaping and other things could be longer. Not entirely getting the whole 'Metroid' feel of the game. After a while, the hunters and guardians become pains in the ass. And the same bloody bosses four times was rather dull. And not once in the game was there an actual metroid. No bonus equipment, like suit upgrades and new visors. The main thing that I really get out of the game is the multiplayer. Isn't my favorite Metroid game, that's for sure, but it was decient enough to come back to every other month or so...

Another reason I don't like Hunters? The Alimbics are dicks...

This isn't going to be a popular post

Hunters, was the game which made me get into Metroid

Before I had tried out Super Metroid on an emulator, and sooner or later I got stuck, because I didn't really understand the process in how you explore, the little things you look for when you want to bomb/beam/missile a wall to proceed

But I enjoyed Hunters, and it made me want to get the prime games (I got 1 and 2 soon after completion), after completing 1, and then getting stuck on Mr boost ball boss on 2, I then decided to check out metroid fusion. And metroid fusion I think is the game which really iterated the idea of metroid style exploration in a 2D game, every 2D game before that didn't especially define certain functions or processes, it allowed more room for the player to experiment, giving less opportunity for players who didn't have the logic/patience to do that themselves.

But fusion gave me the patience, because I understood what generally I was looking for. So after getting MZM, enjoying the hell out of it and then downloading Super Metroid on the Wii Console, I managed to complete them. NES Metroid had it's own fair share of difficulties, especially the 30 health at start thing which is aggravating more than anything.

So after doing a full circle of most of the metroid games, ( and completing MP3 near the end), it made me finally understand why people don't see MPH in any high regard

It isn't linear as such, it's just generic. You know that one world will have one main route, which splits off into 2 (or 3 in Alinos's case), and you don't feel that there is any significant deviation from these routes. In that sense I understand why people class it as a linear game.

The two octalith bosses, (and this is definitely a flaw, because I felt this on the first playthrough) are annoying because they are either the eye or column, which you have to fight 4 times each, so yes, that is a real issue with this game

The controls I think are really good for the technology available, in this whole topic I have yet to see anyone say on how they could have actually been improved, they initially gave me hand cramp but after finding a comfortable way to hold the DS (I have an original DS, the big boy), I found that my hand was fine for extended periods of play (3+ hours)

The exploration "metroidy" element itself is not non-existent, it's just a little dumbed down, I spent much less time thinking "how the hell am I going to do this!?!" "I have to get there! Say what!?!", compared to the primes or super metroid.

I mostly agree with what IUniverse has replied to, because I think regardless of any biased opinion, which is evident in most parties (and definitely in this post!), MPH is still a good game, one of the best games in my DS collection, and has enough metroid reference and "metroidy" quality to be classed as a metroid game

But that doesn't mean its better than any other metroid games, I may think it myself (and I won't elaborate), but it's worthy enough to not have as much negative criticism as it's been getting

Hi-5! For having your own opinion. And presenting an intelligent argument for Hunters. While I do dislike it, I am proud to say I have at least finished it, and unlike a lot of people (I think) disliked it before I even knew of the Mdb, Metroid 2002 etc, as opposed to those who hate it simply because everyone else does.

Honestly, can we get a list of everyone who's actually played it? Then we can find out how many 0f teh h8ers know what they're talking about.

I've played it but I just didn't like it. It didn't satisfy my desire for a 2D metroid, plain and simple as that.

What would be interesting is to see how many people would dislike the game if it didn't involve the Metroid universe. For example, what if it was its own new franchise, exact same game but with a completely different universe and protagonist? I'd bet it would have more positive attention, but would not have gained near the overall infamy by this point in its life.

I played Hunters from start to finish, and got the good ending. While it wasn't an abomination like most people say, I don't have any desire to ever play it again. It's not bad (I can think of many truly bad games that are way worse) but it was not fun or enjoyable for me. I found myself frustrated and sore, and with unmet expectations.

I've beaten it at least 5 times, and I still pick it up a lot. It's great for car rides and grandparent's houses. :P

I'd be interested to see how in an alternate universe it would have faired; however, as a first person shooter, it would still have some high competition against other first person shooters.

I agree with your findings more closely though

I wouldn't. In fact, I enjoyed the game, in that I didn't dislike playing it. It's an alright game on it's own, and a terrible game when compared to the rest of Metroid.

Played it. Beat it several times.

To be honest, Hunters is not a bad game. It's just a radically different type of gameplay, and I like seeing franchises like Metroid try something truly new. Same reason why I like Majora's Mask over Ocarina of Overratedness Time.

Still, there's a lot of fresh material in that game that didn't quite get used as well as it could've. Stuff like other Hunters and weapons, and exploring multiple planets (which MP3 didn't quite manage to perfect, either). I'd enjoy a Hunters 2 if they went and adjusted things a little more. That and give us some better Boss variety.

Therefore, 8) = :metroid:

Now you know why they call it Metroid.

I'd like if they did something like a Hunters 2, but on the Wii. Here's things they should do:

-Include Ghor, Gandrayda and Rundas. Hey, it could happen before Prime 3.
-Have it more about bounty hunting and don't try to make it epic. It failed in Hunters 1.
-A better multiplayer system for Wii, and no Friend Codes!
-WiiSpeak is a must.
-Single player should still be an awesome Metroid adventure.
-Some variety with the bosses.

I own and still play Hunters occasionally. Mostly multiplayer, though that's really gone downhill these days.
