Ooh, yeah, that's cool!
BTW, any comments on the actual fight?

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid game
Listen closer. It's about as similar to Kraid's theme from SM as Omega Ridley's theme is to Ridley. Mogenar/Mecha Kraid was made to represent Kraid, just like Omega Ridley was Ridley and AU 313 was Mother Brain. But you're right, they're not the same character.
You're right, but what I meant was that Mogenar is meant to represent Kraid. (As I said above) |

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid gameWow! Great battle. I can see it now. That would really be a great fight. I'm trying to figure out what other fight it reminds me of...

He is. But he's also a statue, and it looks like he may be a statue of kraid. |

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid gameHey, new idea for the 3d kraid fight!
Hidden on one of the walls, accessible from the lower scaffolding, is a morph ball tunnel. It leads to a control room, where you can open a hatch in the ceiling of kraid's room. Once that's done, you can call in your ship to bomb him. Bombing kraid takes away 1/3 of his health. Incidentally, stage two of the battle begins when he is at 2/3 of his health. If you call your ship, it is the bombs-rather than kraid-that destroys the scaffolding towers. Afterward, the hatch closes, and rubble from the towers blocks the tunnel, preventing you from using it again. Because of the hole being blocked, you can only use this trick during stage 1. Depending on how injured he is when you use the bombing thing, you can either skip stage one completely, or (if you wait until he's just one shot away from 2/3 health) cut the more difficult stage 2 in half. This doesn't win the battle for you, but it makes it easier (especially if you use it when you're already most of the way through stage 1). Of course, if this game has those accomplishment tokens like Corruption, you should probably get an "Air Raid Kraid" medal if you use your ship in the fight. What do you guys think? |

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid gameWow. Brilliant idea! I'd compare it to the secret method to kill Draygon. But, again it has the same problem. - The Internet. Within a few days everyone will know the secret, and it won't be a clever little trick anymore.

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid game
Well, unlike draygon it isn't a 1hk. Just makes it a bit easier. |

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid gameYeah, by having it NOT a one-hit-kill, simply knowing the trick doesn't ruin the whole fight.

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid gameawesome battle. I think the grapple/shoot of stage two would rock and be hard at the same time

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid gameThat Kraid 3D battle would bloody rock to be honest. espeically if you just recieved the grapple beam, good way to learn how to use it in a battle situation. I kinda disliked getting it in MP1 as being chased by metroids is not fun straight after getting the grapple beam.
Dude please get hired by Nintendo and help make the next 3D Metroid. Kraid would be an awesome fight.... Can't wait to see what you would do for Ridley! "Listen, and understand. That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead. "

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid gameI'd have to agree with Doftimus....Nintendo needs you.
How would you make a unique Ridley boss battle? That's the problem I have with Prime, the ridley boss battles aren't really awesome. They are just sorta mediocre battles where you learn a pattern and take it from there. I want a really challenging Ridley fight, i mean hell, it is her nemesis and cause for who she is. You would think Nintendo would create something awesome for any ridley fight. "I authorize full use of the Report Button on the MDb Message Boards." |

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid gameThe first one in Mp3 was unique I remember trying to kill Ridley and it was a few seconds left....man I didn't expect that.

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid gameGlad you guys liked Kraid. Now, on to Mr. Riddles.
There's one thing about Ridley that really stood out in the 2D games. Namely, he didn't act like a videogame boss. There's no waiting for him to reveal his weak spot, no tricking him into opening his mouth so you can shoot him. You just shoot, dodge, and hope that you're better at shooting and dodging than he is. This made Ridley feel much more real than a lot of the other bosses, which is fitting for Samus' archenemy. I also happen to really enjoy this type of battle (for instance, Gandrayda was my favorite boss in Corruption; just a straight up fight against a swift and powerful opponent). The Prime games varied in their treatment of Ridley. Corruption's was terrible (Ridley was just another "trick me into revealing my weak spot, then pull my armor off to stun me, then shoot me while I'm paralyzed" boss), but Prime was closer to the mark. The Meta-Ridley fight from Prime was good, especially the first half, when its just a straight up shooting match. However, it kind of lost this quality during stage two, when you have to...you guessed it...trick him into opening his mouth and stun him so you can make him reveal the weak spot on his chest. I think that a Ridley battle should be more like Gandrayda. I also would like to see his moveset from Super make a return in 3D. That said, there were some cool Ridley ideas introduced in the primes. The way he flew around the distant hilltops in Prime or through the leviathan's guts in Corruption made him seem like a force of nature. The variety of ranged attacks it introduced is also cool. Thus, my attempt to incorporate the best of both worlds... 3D Ridley Battle The arena is an enormous lava cave, with an island in the middle surrounded by a shallow sea of magma (much like the battlefield in SM, actually). There are many stalagmites and stalactites, big enough to climb on or duck behind for cover. High up in the cathedral-like walls and ceiling are many cavern openings, all dotted with stalagmites and stalactites (sort of like the leviathan's innards from Corruption, but less symmetrical). After you enter, Ridley descends from one of these openings, and the battle begins. Ridley's entire body is vulnerable, so you don't have to worry about hitting a special vulnerable spot. He's just fast, agile, and has tons of health. Most of the time, Ridley will be in the air, flying around overhead and making various attacks. Sometimes, however, he'll land for a little while and use some different moves. Ridley should have a LOT of different moves and attacks to choose from, with some being more frequent than others. Its possible for Ridley to surprise you even after playing through the game several times, by using an attack that he never happened to pick before. Ridley's repertoire includes the following: 1. Walking toward you and slashing with his claws. He can only use this while grounded. 2. Using his tail to stab you over his shoulder, like a scorpion. This has longer reach and does more damage than the claws, but is used more rarely. He can only use this while grounded. 3. Charge you, like in Prime. If he hits you, he bites, claws, and then (unless you're fast) turns around and tail-whips you, like in Prime. He can only use this while grounded. 4. Swoop down and grab you. Shake the wiimote to free yourself. You lose health quickly while Ridley is holding you, and, if you don't break free fast enough, he throws you into the lava. He can only use this while airborne. 5. Hover overhead and stab at you with his tail. Unlike Super, he can point his tail in many different angles, so its harder to dodge in 3D. He can only use this while airborne. 6. Land on top of you with a body slam, like in Prime. This happens if he lands too close to you. 7. Spit a stream of plasma, that burns a line across the arena. He can use this at any time. 8. Spit a volley of exploding fireballs, that you have to dodge behind a stalagmite to avoid. He can use this at any time. Ridley follows no set pattern; he uses any combination of these attacks in any order he wants. He also has a rather good AI. If you're hitting him a lot, he'll sidestep behind a stalagmite. If you seem to be consistently good at hitting him when he uses a certain attack, he won't use it as frequently. Generally speaking, you'll want to stay a medium distance from Ridley; too far away for him to use his melee attacks, but close enough to hit him easily. Of course, Ridley is always on the move, and you should be too. Ridley has a couple of complicated maneuvers he'll pull off a few times over the course of the battle as well. For instance, he can fly away into the cavern openings and reenter the room from a different angle (a la Prime and Corruption), making strafing runs with his plasma stream and fireball attacks. When he does this, he flies low enough for you to get a couple of hits in (if you're fast), so it doesn't disrupt the flow of the battle too much. As he gets more injured, Ridley starts incorporating the lava into his movements. He can dive into the lava and pop up somewhere else. He can even fly away into one of the cave openings and then burst out of the lava behind you. Occasionally, Ridley might also land on top of a stalagmite and start hopping up and down and shooting literally dozens of fireballs, just like in the NES game. When he does this, jump from cover to cover and shoot him in between. Once in a while, he might even use his tail to swat your missiles out of the air (the tail is the only invulnerable part of him). To make this clear, Ridley should be a longish battle, and you should die at least two or three times before managing to beat him (unless you're really, really good). Ridley is always the second to last boss in the games he's in, so he should also be the second to hardest. Speaking of final bosses, Mother Brain is next. In the meantime, please gimme feedback on Ridley. Last edited by Sylux on 12.11.08 5:55pm, edited 2 times in total.

Re: Things that should be in the next 3d metroid gameI like the large selection of attacks and anything that isn't a set pattern is going to make it harder
The environment doesn't seem as exciting as Kraid's but appropriate none the less. The entrance is a little dull. I would go for something like Samus jumping onto a floating island as she's looking around something drops into the lava behind her causing some wave action that catches her attention. As she's attempting to scan it have Ridley emerge from the lava into the air and the fight begin. "I authorize full use of the Report Button on the MDb Message Boards." |
